I mean based on these sprites I’d say that this Wolverine is supposed to be in the beefy side and even remarkably tall. His legs are normally bent for a majority of the match but when Logan’s legs are fully extended compared to someone like Harada’s, you can see that they are clearly twice as thick and just as long. And look at how long his arms are too. His reach is just as long as the Samurai’s which would also imply that he is not a man of short stature in these games but he is just standing crouched. So some liberties were taken that definitely veer from the comics in terms of Wolverine’s stature and build in the games but it works perfectly figure wise for a 1:1 translation for the in game counterpart
Considering there's a chunk of re-use in here with other figures, I'm not sure total scale accuracy to the game is a huge concern for them. But as TSI said - the bigger problem is that we know if they're putting resources into a whole new body for this Wolverine, then the intent is that this is our new Wolverine body. That's a huge problem if it's going to be used on comic figures. Hell, it's a problem here for me because I would love to put this figure in a comic display since it's not necessarily tied to just being a video game figure (by specific cell shading, for example).

I mean fair enough but I’ve been flipping through a fair amount of pages in these Wolverine Omnibus collections from the 90’s era lately and depending on the artist, Wolverine is a lumbering brute in those comics. Granted, yes he is shorter but this still works as an Adam Kubert or Bart Sears Wolverine if you need that void in your shelf that the previous body just hasn’t matched. I’m just saying give the figure a chance before you let your anxiety dictate yet another one of your purchasing choices only to get upset later when FOMO kicks in once the reviews are in and it turns out Wolverine is one of the best in this series.

I mean.. yeah. You can make the argument that if he's the right bulk and too tall - you can just pose him crouched all the time. That was always the argument with pre-Juggs-wave Wolverine figures. So it's a "if this figure -otherwise- looks good, just deal with it" situation. And I'm absolutely not saying he IS too big or anything. I'm saying I'm concerned that he might be. Just voicing a concern at what it looks like may be happening rather than making definitive statements about it or panicking just yet.

But if they did make him too tall, I'mma be angry.

Okay, finally getting a Juggernaut more in the size Juggernaut should be. I wished they would have took some liberties and made Silver Samurai bigger. The blister card one was too short so this one will be as well. I guess it makes sense for the game version though. I can skip the War Machine/Omega Red 2-pack. I don't have any use for either. The other 2-packs I will grab if at all possible. Gargantos I will grab just for being something different for the the Dr. Strange shelf.

I'm probably going to have to give Dr. Strange his own shelf if Shumagargantos is to go on it. Right now he's sharing one with Heroes for Hire, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider.

So I decided to zoom in on Wolverine in the packaging because I wanted to get a better idea of what the ears looked like unwarped. It’s a little unfocused I’ll admit but a funny thought popped into my head when I had a good look at this image. It appears that Hasbro took a lot of queues from the Toy Biz X-Men vs Street Fighter Wolverine & Akuma pack when they made this figure because it shares a lot of the same traits. The taller and stockier frame, the more saturated colors, the gritted teeth on the head, the longer mask fins (for obvious reasons) I know these are both MvC wolverines so the similarities should be obvious but it feels they are spiritual successors even outside of the game that binds them. Much in the same way that the Wolverine from the Apocalypse wave in 2017 kind of looks like the Water Wars Wolverine but 20 years removed.

Are we going to talk about how this wolverine probably doesn't have calf swivel though? because that kinda sucks.

Uh I think he does according to this shot. Just like pretty much every wolverine that has come before him, the calf swivel is hidden underneath his boot cut. Look at his left boot, it’s off center from the base of the knee. That would indicate a swivel.

I hope you're right, but based on that photo i think both calves are in the same position. If you look at his right leg, it looks like the black center of the boot would line up with where the outside of knee joint would be, just like the bent left knee does.

If you zoom in at his left leg in this photo, it makes me think we're looking at an Astonishing Wolverine Situation.

Well the Astonishing Wolverine figure had piping that ran down the center of the entire leg from the hip to the boot, so no boot swivel could be added because it would have impeded the piping and could have potentially could have resulted in paint rub if it was allowed to wiggle. I don’t think that would be the case in a situation like this where this is no interference.

I'm going to be honest, I don't think the piping down the leg had anything to do with the choice to remove the boot cut on that figure.

Wolverine's proportions are neat. I appreciate how much depth his body has overall. Now I'm wishing Silver Samurai got a glow up to match:

He was such an underrated figure the first time around, and he still looks very nice. But, a hulking size increase in his torso and arms, closer to the size of Omega Red, would have really made this guy look like he hopped out of MvC2 alongside Wolverine. I'm also guessing he has no butterfly joints which is pretty weak at this point in the line on a guy who holds a katana.

Definitely going to pre-order Juggernaut and Psylocke (don't need Thanos) but some of the other packs I'll wait for reviews and price drops if I decide they can replace existing figures. But that said a voice in my head has been telling me Gargantos would like good in a Ghostbusters display lol.

Just keep in mind that at least 4 of these sets are Target/Walmart/Amazon exclusives respectively and are not guaranteed to have a retail presence so it’s not wise to dawdle for long if you can avoid it.

That's a very good point. Suppose it's easier to sell off unwanted figures than it is to track down figures that aren't widely available after release.
