Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

Love Holland's Spidey (and Holland himself), and I've really grown to like Yelena, so I'm excited to see them share the screen. With as much else seems to be going on in the movie, I may not expect her to have that big a role, but still- I like those little crossover moments just as much, if not moreso, than the big Avengers team-ups. Two spider themed heroes on screen together- who'da thunk it?

I don't want to rain on everyone's parade, but they will not let a Spider-Man movie just be a Spider-Man movie.

They're turning me into a Raimi trilogy truther.

I don't get why they think Spidey needs crutches. He's been Marvel's flagship character almost since he 1st appeared in the comics. Then again perhaps it's to reinforce his youth in comparison to the other characters in the franchise--though, that clock is winding down extremely fast. LOL!

I think it's Sony's way of fucking with Marvel by demanding all of Marvel's toys.

I really hope MJ is barely in this movie - cameo for her and Ned (if he has to be), no more. I want Pete to do NEW things and experience new situations - Firestar and/or Black Cat are GREAT ideas.

Well... a Spider-Man movie can't just be Peter and villains, so if you're gonna populate it with characters, I'm cool with it being characters I enjoy. Yelena probably is just a small role here, and I'll take it. Hulk and Punisher feel like heavier supporting characters, but I still feel like all the Holland movies couldn't be confused as co-starring someone else. They're all firmly Peter movies.

Just as long as they don’t have Peter calling Frank “Mister Castle” or other infantilism. Pete didn’t need a “mentor hero” in the first place.

I actually like the Holland Spider-Man movies; I think Homecoming is one of the best MCU movies. That said, I hate this shit. One of the most compelling aspects of Peter Parker is that he figures it out on his own. It's a struggle, but he does it. Young adulthood! The Raimi movies nail this.

I'm cautiously optimistic that we'll see more of that in Brand New Day now that they forcibly removed everyone from his life.

I get that perspective, but one of my favorite things about him in the comics was seeing Spider-Man interact with other characters. Heroes, villains, friends, May etc. so that's why I'm so happy about it.

Interact?
Yes.
Be press-ganged into being a child soldier and then admonished about his conduct by the very narcissist who press-ganged him, and then weeping for the death of that man?

No.

It's a double-edged sword for me. Part of me likes a younger Peter calling people things like "Mr. Stark", "Mr. Castle", etc. It feels totally appropriate for someone of his age. I wouldn't even mind a little of that in this next movie, but there does need to be a clear progression. I think that was probably just part of his upbringing with May, and is probably a little hard to shake, but as he realizes more and more that he's essentially on his own, I'd like to see him start to shed that and move into a more mature (but still wise-cracking) version of himself. If anything, I think Punisher is an interesting person to pair him up with. Let him kind of explore that darker, more mature side, maybe go a little too far at one point, and do the thing that Frank seems unable to do, which is back off a bit and learn to balance that rage.

Depending on how they play it, I think Peter probably would want to join a team of some sort. It's the first time in a while that not only is he on his own, but nobody knows he's Spidey. There's upsides and downsides to that. I think he'll probably like the anonymity a bit, and maybe want to form relationships with other heroes just so he'll have a friend, but I do think the point of this new arc- whether it's confined to this movie, or it becomes a trilogy, whatever- is that we'll start to see a Spidey that's more independent, and works well as part of a team, but isn't necessarily the "intern" of the team, so to speak- he's more of a leader or team player.

Precisely.

One of my favorite comics back in my teenage days was Marvel Team-Up. Spidey and a different Marvel character every month. So much fun.

And in Spider-Man's very first issue, he had his very first team-up.

I have loved all three MCU movies so far. I'm sure I'll love Brand New Day.

P.S. Punisher appearing in a Spider-Man movie makes total sense. That's where Frank made his first appearance in the comics.
