Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

Can't say that trailer excited me too much. But interesting they are integrating the tech and mystical stuff here, given Doom is known for both as well.

Unrelated, but I got thinking about Tony Stark and the final snap given the discussion about him being selfish/arrogant/controlling in Fletch's thread - I wonder if some part of Tony maybe subconsciously in his "wish" to end Thanos had a brief thought of wanting to survive as well, and that created Doom, a version of him that didn't evolve into a good person but instead a bad one? Or do we think Doom will never be unmasked to look like Stark? Or maybe Doom is Stark from another Universe?
Given that the MCU was so desperate to show RDJ's face out of the suit as much as possible, even going so far as to create the nanotech basically just for that purpose, I'm expecting him to be sans mask as often as possible. You know they'll wanna milk the fact that he looks like Tony for all its worth- too many possibilities for some good dramatic moments with characters who knew him before.

The tech/magic aspect is definitely the most interesting part to me. It looks decent as far as production values etc. I hope it's great but ready for it to be firmly middle of the pack.

You haven't been listing the 2/13/26 date, and rightfully so as it's been removed from Disney's schedule. Also 11/6/26 and 11/5/27 were originally held for "Untitled Marvel" but as per Variety, they have been changed to "Untitled Disney". You haven't been listing those either, so.... continue to do so.
Okay, let me see if I can fix this.

(I wish Marvel Studios was going to be in Hall H this year. If they were, we might get a better idea of what the plan is to finish out the Multiverse Saga. But heck, for all we know, they're probably still working on it.)

Anyway, tally ho.

Phase Five

WHAT WE KNOW IS COMING (we just don't know exactly when) :

The Punisher Special
Vision
Blade
Shang Chi 2
Doctor Strange 3
Black Panther 3
The X-Men

And of course all the stuff that's in the "vaguely rumored" stage: Untitled Scarlett Johansson Production, Nova, The Legendary Star Lord, Midnight Sons, Champions ... cripes, you could write a book. Until they get officially announced they'll stay off.

Okay, I think Ru1977 is right that we add the untitled Marvel and Disney release dates to the schedule. Otherwise, there would be no Marvel movies between Doomsday and Secret Wars and we know Bob Iger wouldn't like that. Looking at the rest of the list, we know that Black Panther 3 is in pre-production and will feature Denzel Washington in a key role (Which is insanely cool. He is one of the best actors on the planet). Cameras are rolling on Daredevil Born Again 2 and Vision. Doctor Strange 3 better be soon because as far as I know it's going to be a multiversal tale. Likewise, Sony and Marvel NEED to get cracking on Spider-Man Brand New Day if they want to make that release date. I am really looking forward to that. A Spidey/Hulk mash up should be a lot of fun.

8 year old me bought that issue at a drugstore in Indiana. (Actually, my mother bought it for me). I took one look at that John Romita cover and knew I had to have it. And I still have it.

I'm prepared to be surprised by RDJ as Doom, but mostly because I have no idea what they were thinking by making him Doom. I don't even mean that negatively. I personally cannot think of a single story reason to have the most famous face in the MCU play the most famous never-takes-his-mask-off character, but the writers aren't bad at this.

Maybe they got him on board by saying it's all voice over work until a dramatic final reveal in a close-up.

I could see Doctor Strange 3 being between the two Avengers films (July 23rd, 2027) and Shang Chi 2, The X-Men and Black Panther 3 being the 2028 slate, in that order.

I am more intrigued by the year long gap between FF and Spidey 4.

You gotta admit ... it's certainly not everyday you come face to face with God.

All things considered, I'd say Marvel's first family is taking it well.

The Punisher Special
Wait.... what?

I'm way out of the loop right now on Marvel stuff -- has it been revealed/hinted as to WHY RDJ is Doom? Is Doom in the MCU supposed to be an alternate universe Tony, or are they actually just doing the weirdest thing ever and just casting one of the most famous MCU actors in a different role just 'cause they like him and he wanted the paycheck? I'm genuinely puzzled by this. I'm figuring it's GOTTA be that Doom -is- Tony Stark in this story.

They haven't said anything about how or why or even what. My best guess at the moment is that he is as much Tony Stark as Chris Evans was Steve Rogers in Deadpool & Wolverine.

And yes, they're doing a Punisher Special for Disney Plus, with Bernthal co-writing. It's tentatively set to come out early next year.

I would hate that. Only because I feel like the -point- of the Chris Evans thing (and I'm not a big brain over here) was exactly how tongue-in-cheek that whole experience was, with DP expecting him to be Cap and all that. It works specifically because we are hanging the world's biggest lantern on the fact that this is the guy that played Cap, but he's not Cap here, and there's actually NO reason these two people look exactly the same except that it is the same actor. That was the joke of having Johnny there.

I don't think it's wise to set up Doom as a punchline.

That sounds amazing. Bernthal is such an intense actor and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with Punisher. He does seem to have a lot of respect for the roots of the character and how he's portrayed in the comics. I hope it's a bit more John Wick and a bit less of the weird slow motion thing they did with the most recent Daredevil. Really was not a big fan of the cinematography/choreography there.

Yeah, part of me is hoping that RDJ is only gonna be Doom for these 1 or 2 movies and then replaced by THE Doom, but I also realize how cheap a cop-out that would be. One of the gripes people had with Endgame Thanos was that it wasn't the same Thanos who'd committed the atrocities of the movie prior, so they're not gonna take all this time to set up how evil he is, only to then introduce you to a different version. And ultimately, I suppose it's far juicier for characters with a connection to Tony to see his face on someone else and have that inner turmoil of having to fight him. I'm just worried this Doom isn't gonna feel too much like Doom. Like I said before, you know they're not gonna hide RDJ's face behind the mask for too long- the guy is too expressive and charismatic, but to me, Doom isn't really Doom without the mask. Since he refuses to be seen without it due to his ego, I'd assume that this version is just a pre-scarred Doom, and maybe if he gets scarred in these movies, they'll recast in the future with the notion that they can keep the mask on most of the time. I guess it could be explained away like Scarecrow was from Arkham Asylum to Arkham Knight- it's the same version, but just looks and, most importantly, sounds different because he was horrifically scarred.

Ultimately, I guess it just depends on what their plans are for Doom and how long they plan on keeping him around. I don't know if it would feel right for a character as big as Dr. Doom to be taken care of in 2 movies. He's big enough in the Marvel universe that he could stick around as a persistent threat as long or longer than Thanos or even Loki did. As great an actor as RDJ is, he's not gonna be able to- or necessarily want to- play this role for the next 10-20 years, so getting someone younger in there could be beneficial.

Well, to clarify, I mean like Chris Evans in Deadpool & Wolverine as far as the audience, and more to the point the characters, believe it's one character when it is someone entirely different, but not in a punchline way. I obviously don't know anything at all, but I would think rather than the "oh, ha ha, he's not Captain America at all, I shall slap my knee with laughter" it's more about someone like, say, Peter Parker thinking he knows who this is but "oh shit, he's not Tony Stark at all, I shall grab my partner's knee with slight terror".
That sounds amazing. Bernthal is such an intense actor and I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with Punisher.
For real. And I believe he had a lot of input on the Punisher show, as well as Born Again. Apparently he turned it down initially because of what they had Punisher doing and he agreed to do it only if he got to make some changes. So the Special feels like a continuation of that.

Obviously that's possible. I'm not counting on it since villains don't usually get a lot of appearances to evolve and have a real arc, but Doom could very well be the next Loki.

The way I see it working with "and now he's the REAL Doom" or at least second Doom is if, after Secret Wars, everything is softly rebooted and we get a new Iron Man, new Steve, new Natasha, AND a new Doom etc.
One of the gripes people had with Endgame Thanos was that it wasn't the same Thanos who'd committed the atrocities of the movie prior, so they're not gonna take all this time to set up how evil he is, only to then introduce you to a different version.
Yeah, I see that gripe as being valid and even had the same idea initially, but that different version was even worse!

Definitely! It's the only reason I see for casting someone we know so well already. Peter and Rhodey will have a lot to deal with.
you know they're not gonna hide RDJ's face behind the mask for too long
I don't actually. He may only have two unmasked scenes across the next two Avengers movies.
it just depends on what their plans are for Doom and how long they plan on keeping him around.
Absolutely.

Doom isn't really Doom without the mask.
THIS.

SO MUCH THIS.

The *only* time we should see an unmasked Doom is in some kind of recreation of the “Beyonder-power” moment in the *original* Secret Wars, and if they did that moment it would need to be BUILT UP TO over a long, long period of time. I can’t imagine a scenario where they won’t rush to show RDJ’s smug mug as fast as possible, and that would be a HUGE mistake.

Sigh, this one will be the hardest one for me of all the possible MCU missteps. Like, I like Iron Man a lot as a classic comic character, but Doom is my favorite Marvel character of all time BY FAR, and a Top-5 favorite comic book character AND a Top-5 favorite villain of all time in any genre or media style.

So, when they inevitably fuck him up, it’s gonna hurt. A lot. I’m basically just bracing for impact, and hoping whatever they pull doesn’t totally taint the character going forward in popular culture.
