Marvel Cinematic Universe Movies and Streaming Series Discussion

If you are referring to me, that's not what I said. At all.

Assorted FF thoughts after seeing it again, notes, nitpicks, etc - probably things many have noticed:

Nit picks/"Aksually"
  • Launching the Excelsior (hi Stan) from Manhattan with people that close would not be safe - there is a reason people are not close to rocket launches, the sound waves/pressure are lethal if you are too close.
  • I know why they do it in terms of having markers for people, but the transportation towers being in the middle of cities was silly and meant they not evenly distributed.
  • Galactus' ship sure took its time getting from Saturn to Earth.
  • I wish we had just a little bit more of Ben being unsure of talking to the teacher given his appearance - needed a scene between the "meet cute" and the scene at the synagogue I felt.
  • I also felt Johnny needed to be a bit more of a player, we never really saw him being the heartthrob/eligible bachelor, which would have also played into the reaction of "sure, the silver alien likes you" as him thinking they all like him.
  • Giving Franklin the 5 logo suit instead of a 4 1/2 logo...sigh...
  • People seemed pretty OK with the idea that the Earth was going to be teleported. I think that might have been a plan I questioned, and that Reed didn't think about teleporting Big G until the other plan failed - not sure what to think of that.
  • I do wish there might have been a glimpse of the idea that Shalla-Bal was waiting for a planet to be able to fight back, or even selected Earth because she thought they might be able to fight back - needed a bit more sense of hopelessness about her fate and her not liking selecting the planets.

Theories -
  • I am going to guess that the fight with Red Ghost was going to happen as a small set piece to show the team working together, just after the TV show montage that opened the film. It would have made sense if the gag at the end of them ready to be on the show, but then getting an emergency call so when the curtain opens they are gone, had also occurred in the opening scene (making the car seat more amusing as well) as they head off to fight Super Apes. They probably cut it to save some of the team in action for the end?
  • Changing to Shalla-Bal from Norrin Radd was needed for one theme of the film to be paralleled, that a Mom might do anything to protect their child.

Fac, I had a few of the same thoughts:

a rocket launch in the middle of Manhattan seemed extremely dangerous. I also needed them to shoot a LOT more crowd reaction shots - we saw the same people too many times and in too many scenarios.

Ben and Johnny both needed more scenes interacting with non-main cast, and Johnny needed to talk to... anybody. I liked this take on Johnny playing into Reed's saying "the smartest people he knows who happen to be my family" by figuring out the linguistics but that felt like SUUUCCH a stretch - and that's Reed's function.

Not having any pushback on teleporting the Earth also felt extremely odd to me. "Hey, we figured out teleportation - and you are ALL the next guinea pigs!" would have raised a ton of flags from a population ready to sacrifice a baby. Also, where was it going to go?

I like your idea of Shalla-Bal searching out planets who would fight back - kinda wish they'd done something like that. And you are spot-on with your parallel of her and Sue.

I also agree that the opening/closing talk show stuff could have been done better. There are shots in the trailer of Johnny taking off from outside and everyone running into the car which we did not see, which would make sense if this scene was a bit longer - or was actually two - one pre-Franklin and one with Franklin. And they just keep abandoning Ted?

Also 4 1/2 - that's why they didn't do the 5, they had the same thought as you.

I finally saw FF yesterday. I don't think I have anything to add to the conversation about it. I liked it A LOT. Not just more than the previous attempts.

New Spider suit:

It's fine. It's a Spider-Man suit tweaked ever so slightly to be just different enough to sell a new figure.

I get having the Iron Spider suit, the events in Infinity War warranted it, but besides that, the guy could have had one Spider suit for all of his movies and it wouldn't have made a difference.

The suit at the end of NWH was perfect, I will be disappointed if that isn't used in BND...

Looks pretty similar... maybe it's 'the same' the same way Luke's lightsaber hilt is the same one in ESB as it was in ANH.

To add to those rumors:

Supposedly, Sony really wanted a multiverse element because No Way Home did so well. Having Sink play someone from another universe will satisfy that, but even with the Hulk, this seems like a street-level, gang war type story.
