Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

Should we be worried that Gambit, Elektra and Torch got left out of the latest D&W reveals? They WERE on the leaked list for that wave, afterall.

I would worry after San Diego if they aren't shown. I feel like those are the kind of cards you'd hold for that versus what they've already shown us.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry juuuust yet. There's always that awkward window of time before a major Con where you can tell they're trying to hold things back, but still show off some new product. The last wave was 6 figures, and we know of, what- 3 or 4 from this new wave? One of which- Shirtless Wolvie, is a store exclusive, so he may not even count. Given the amount of re-use in the Deadpool variants (and old re-use, at that) it wouldn't surprise me if the reason for that was because of the new tooling required (in theory) for Gambit, Elektra, and Torch.

So I'm cautiously optimistic we'll see them at SDCC in a month. I can see Gambit going either way- either he gets released here, saved for Doomsday, or, provided there's a different costume in Doomsday that's easily done, just a real quick turnaround with whatever new color scheme.

Gambit, Torch and Elektra may have been rumors instead of leaks. That's why the thread is rumors/leaks because we have no idea if any of the influencers we get our info from are correct or not until a figure is revealed or disproven, like Princess Python last year, which still stings,
If any of them are in Doomsday, maybe they were held back for that.

Snagged the Val & Void pack, but now it's gonna make me want Bucky and Ghost all the more.

Definitely considering getting me some of that Musou Black paint for Void. I know it's not quite as good as a lot of folks say it is- it's more of an effects paint that works in controlled environments, but even still- it's a little closer to what I was hoping for from the figure.

How do MCU Collectors feel about MCU Legends getting "rebalanced" to Black Series articulation and effort so comic Legends can get more attention/budget?

"Marvel Legends needs to step up to compete."

Does it?

No thanks to this idea. Why would I want the figures I collect to get worse so the other figures I also collect to ostensibly get better? *HYPOTHETICALLY*

I'm not opposed to slightly less articulation on *some* MCU characters like a single knee or elbow like Black Series on characters who don't really need that articulation/all those cuts. But Cassandra Nova's single elbow range annoys me already so.

This just sounds like an excuse for Hasbro to make a less-quality product but still charge the same amount which would just go into their pockets and not into the comic figures.

That said - Val is one of my most-anticipated figures coming this year but even I can't put down full-price for this - she's got the Cassandra arms reused again. Ended up paying $14.99 for Walker/Sentry and about $25 for Yelena/Alexei and even though I doubt this set is coming to Target, MSRP is still just way too high especially when it's so light on accessories and has half the paint of a normal two-pack.

Apparently Amazon shipped the BND Spidey, and he should be here today.

Admittedly, I haven't watched the video, but the idea in general I don't really know about. Legends has felt pretty "above" Black Series for a while now. Granted, the last few waves, BS feels like it's finally catching up a bit, but I don't want or need Legends to change how it's made just to compare or compete. I like each having their own unique identity and feel, with overlap where necessary. Like, would I mind the balljointed wrists on Legends figures? I dunno, maybe. Like with BS, I think it would be character dependent. Both lines are pretty good in their current forms, but both do make some interestingly baffling decisions at times too.

Edit: Okay, I watched the video, and while I get what he's saying, I don't know if it's necessary per se. A lot of it's what we've said before- the fuckery of Disney and the MCU changing their designs, which leads to either cancelled or inaccurate figures, which eats up cost. But especially nowadays, where they're holding off on a lot of live-action figures until well after the fact, I don't want to also necessarily sacrifice articulation on top of that.

I don't collect nearly as many comic figures as I used to, and even then, I keep it mostly relegated to X-Men and Spidey. I know not every figure re-uses one of a handful of molds, but a lot of them still do. So while it may be a bit ignorant to say, I don't know if other sub-lines like the live-action stuff need to suffer when a lot of the quality issues could, in theory, be fixed if they invest in a handful of good, updated molds for comic figures, you know? From what I've gathered, they are slowly starting to update a lot of the older molds like Bucky Cap and everything, but there's still a fair amount of re-use, even if things have gone more pinless.

The relationship of comic-style collectors to the MCU figures is so amazing to me. They want to keep the line to help generate revenue but only to make the thing they want better? I dunno. At this point I'm kinda ready for Hasbro to abandon the MCU entirely.

I didn't mean to come across as insensitive to comic collectors. At the end of the day, if we're being honest, the comic side of things is probably what will keep going ad infinitum; the MCU stuff definitely does feel like it has an expiration date, even if it's 20 years into the future. If anything, they may pare down to something akin to Star Wars' release style, with perhaps a wave around a movie/show, and then a bunch of releases that kinda stretch across the whole MCU, past and present.

I think my ignorance just comes from a lack of familiarity with a lot of the comic stuff. If the general consensus is that it needs to get better in some way, then I'm all for it. I want everyone to have the line and figures that they want and deserve. I don't know if one line taking the hit for another is the way to go, per se, but I also understand that's how the business works a lot of times.

But at the same time, I also don't know if it's that simple either. Just because we think paring down in one area would boost another, that doesn't always mean it's true. Certainly makes sense, but it depends on a lot of factors too. All that is to say, I am interested to see how the line evolves going forward. I have no doubt that there'll be a response to how Mattel does things with their DC line. I don't think Hasbro necessarily felt much competition in the way of McFarlane's tenure- different scales, divisive molds and articulation, etc., but there's always seemed to be more of a "rivalry" between Hasbro and Mattel, as 2 of the juggernauts of the industry.

More likely it would lead to crappies MCU figures and same quality Comic figures you're getting now. So there is no point. This will never be a major effort line.
