Marvel Cinematic Universe Figure Discussion

Not solely, but probably represent a significant portion of the demographic.
Significant, like a third? Maaaaaybe. I dunno, in my social circle, I was the only person who saw Avengers movie than once and had eve cracked a comic open.

Sigh. “Comic movies are for boys!!!!” is such tired screed.
Anyway.
I actually enjoyed Quantumania a lot. I LOVE Kathryn Newton and she was great, I found the otherworldly setting lots of fun, and it even had Katy O’Brian!
Honestly the only bummer for me was the fallout of the Jonathan Majors situation, because I adored him as Kang and thought I was finally gonna get an overarching Big Bad I could truly get behind, no offense Space Ra’s al Ghul—I mean, Thanos. 😉

Genuine envy.

I did like Majors too, and didn't even have a problem that he was defeated by the likes of someone like Antman. And enjoyed him on both seasons of Loki as well.

I enjoyed the Marvels and Quantumania. Really liked their tone, and the fact that they tried new things and kinda embraced the weirdness. I love things that are just unabashedly themselves and don't take things too too seriously. I don't think I've outright hated any of the MCU movies. A few of them- Brave New World, Love and Thunder, etc., I could take or leave, and probably won't rewatch often, if ever, but I've never regretted seeing any of them (the same can't be said for DC films, like Joss' Justice League). And ones that others seemed to loathe, like Eternals, The Marvels, Quantumania, etc., I enjoyed. Even at their worst, I think MCU films are at least fun, shlocky, comic book-y popcorn fare, and sometimes that's all I want.

I never understood the "X thing is only for Y audience". Let people like what they like, and let properties cater to different audiences from time to time. Not everything has to be for everyone. Now, do certain properties perhaps cater to certain demographics over others? Absolutely, but that doesn't shut out everyone else. A man isn't less of a man because he likes something "girly", nor is a woman less of a woman if she likes something "manly". Why shouldn't a woman like seeing attractive buff guys fighting crime? Or women like them saving the day?

Heck, my mom, who is the least superhero-enamored person I know, has seen probably half-ish of the movies, and loves them. My niece as well- they've loved watching the movies and seeing the badass ladies kicking butt. The introducton of LGBT characters like Carol and Valkyrie has also helped her be a little more comfortable with her sexuality, which I think is a great thing. You never know what's going to speak to who, so it's important that, if you aren't going to explicitly cater to a certain demographic, you need to at least make them not feel excluded.

Anywho. I quite liked Kang as well, and Majors' personal life aside, the man was/is a heck of an actor. He really devoted himself to the role for the short time he got, and I would've loved to have seen more from him. It's a shame that Kang as a character can't really be used now, at least for quite a while, as they're building up other big bads. Just a disappointing situation all around.

The one thing you can't argue with is that nerdy dudes made comics popular. Nerdy dudes spent a shitload of money on them, and then the movies which spawned from them.
Where were the nerdy dudes when Agatha All Along crushed Daredevil Born Again in viewership? Maybe some of these nerdy dudes enjoy every kind of flavor without feeling like their masculinity is threatened? Maybe nerdy dudes don't dictate the success of every piece of entertainment? Just a thought.

Disclaimer: I loved both shows.

I see the issue as being the MCU hasn't picked its new main characters. We knew who that major players were, and saw them often in Phases 1-3. Even guys like Ant-Man or Doctor Strange by year 4 of them being introduced, we saw them in 4 projects. They got exposure to a wide audience. Where is Shang-Chi? Or Moon Knight? The only ones they have used multiple projects Yelena and Kamala, got exposure in a movie and on D+ and that's not exaclty like being features in a movie and a massive Avengers crossover. They didn't get the wider exposure. Marvel needs to focus on who the new main characters are and build around them. Not do all this spaghetti on the wall. They tried doing too many things at once.

Also, we can't expect everything to be billion dollar movies day one. Look at what Phase 1 movies pre Avengers made. You have to build that house of cards up. So you need to be okay starting with smaller grosses and growing them over time.

Right, that's the one. I know fans were 'shipping' them* then both Larson and Thompson were campaigning for it to be something on screen, and that's what we ended up with.

*I think I used that correctly.

If the numbers were that good, sounds like they watched it. My girlfriend loved it. Definitely found an audience. By this logic, every Marvel bomb occurred because the Agatha All Along audience doesn't go to theaters anymore...?
