Marvel 1/6 Scale (Mondo, Hot Toys, etc.)

Received and opened up Carnage today. He’s a surprisingly beefy boy!

I always think of classic Carnage as thinner and sinewy, but I guess the animated version was much more buff.

Very curious to see how deep into Spidey rogues gallery Mondo goes. They went very deep with Batman: The Animated Series but I think that’s a more popular show, so would be surprised if they go as deep with this line.

His black bits being shiny compared to most of the Mondo figures being matte creates a really appealing contrast.

Freaking Sideshow puts an RSVP on '78 Spider-Man, so on the drop you queue up to purchase. I figure, great, I'll take a shot. Then later Sideshow changes the disclaimer description saying he might not be available for US. By that time the HK prices have gone up and I'm left paying more than I would have compared to a few days ago, plus the added shipping and tariff.

I just got a shipping notice for the X-Men 97 Pryde of the X-Men Brown suit Wolverine variant. Should be here by mid next week

Same.

Also got one for Robin from B:TAS. Mondo is pretty good at actually hitting its solicited dates.

Is Robin a reissue? I thought he came out in 2023 around the same time as Manbat?

No, he was this year’s SDCC exclusive. I think he also went up again at some point in the fall.

My Wolverine figure arrived today and oh my goodness this figure rules. Probably even more than the timed release of the tigerstripe outfit. It comes with virtually all of the same accessories with the exception of a new battle damaged head that was added in lieu of the 92 mask from the previous release. And man with these cel shaded details on this figure, the brown and tan costume has never looked better. I’m so happy. This will probably be the be all end all of brown and tan Wolverine figures in my collection for awhile

EDIT: with every pic I took of this figure, I just kept cursing myself for jumping on the Mondo X-Men bandwagon too late and I never picked up any of the other previous figures other than these two Wolverine figures. Mondo has released up to 13 figures now. Ugh that makes me mad…I’d have to spend over 2 g’s to acquire a collection like that.

Seems like they went harder with the cel shading on Brown Wolverine than Tiger Stripe. I'd considered it, but had to default to the 97 look as the yellow's my favorite. The claws still perplex me a bit as they never seem to all be the same length or point the same exact direction/trajectory. I think they did it so you can pose him with as many claws as you like deployed, but it makes for an annoyance getting them all looking properly "snikt-ed."

Yeah the claws are a little annoying but not terrible. Also I can see a justification for the deeper amount of cel shading in the brown and tan vs the yellow and it probably has something to do with the color pantones being a more darker, earthier shade on the brown costume, so the shadows would be deeper than on the less saturated yellow costume. Also the brown in this suit is more of the classic brickyard red from the comics and it is *chefs kiss*. The only thing this figure is missing is that same reddish tone uses as highlights on his mask, and there should have been an alternate version of his belt without the x insignia on it

He looks great. I was sorely tempted by that variant, but held strong. The line is too expensive and takes up too much space to go down the variant rabbit hole.

I agree and I’ve been tempted to get one of the Cyclops figures. I went back and forth on whether I should buy the standard Jim Lee version or the Cockrum look, but inevitably made my decision too late and they’re both sold out. I ended up purchasing the black costume spidey and venom instead. With this Wolverine though I had to shoot my shot. Not only is it tied for first place with the yellow suit as my favorite costume design for Wolverine, at the time that I placed my order I saw it as necessary because what if Wolverine stuck around in the brown suit for the next consecutive seasons for X-Men 97? I had to get it just for those reasons. Glad I did because he’s incredible in person.

The Hot Toys Classic Venom that I ordered off of BBTS showed up and it looks marvelous in person. The material is quite durable and the accessories are beautifully sculpted and very organic looking. I love the gloss finish with the metallic blue undertones mix with that heavy black wash. It looks stunning this way. And if I’m not mistaken this Venom takes inspiration from Ryan Stegman’s run on Venom with Donny Cates? Either way it’s one of my favorite pieces for sure. I’ll try and take pictures tomorrow. It’s been a long day.
