Marvel 1/6 Scale (Mondo, Hot Toys, etc.)

Yeah h love this Wolverine. Mine is a little stiff at the hips and I’m probably going to have to slowly work those out over time. Same goes for the torso swivel. But I love the alternate torso accessories. In fact I’m very tempted to make that my default look for this Wolverine. Also the 92 portrait, the angry head and the gritted teeth with the mask are the best head sculpts in the set. Overall I like him. I don’t think he beat my Animated Black costume Spidey and Venom figures as my favorite mondo releases but he’s pretty cool

Got a shipping notice for the standard Nightcrawler last night. I assume the limited versions are shipping as well. I’m still trying to decide how I want to fit Wolverine into my display so this won’t make it any easier.

Same. Seems like Mondo is shipping figures one by one every week now.

What type of heat did you use to straighten out the 92 ears/wings? I think by default they come bent due to the plastic tray they sit in. I store most of my Mondo figures in box all the time, so just curious as to how Mondo plastic operates compared to Hasbro or others.

I too got shipping on my Nightcrawler. That rounds out all my X-Men purchases. Tempted on Jean, wasn't on Storm (too many mohawk heads that I don't want/need). Seriously considering the TMNT 1/6 of the 4 boys now that I see how you can actually remove most of the excess equipment like all the ninja stuff on Leo and have a more stripped down movie-based figure. I think if I give in and get a Donnie I'm out after the other 3 though. Not enough room and too expensive at this rate.

I used a hair dryer on the high setting. Just FYI the hair dryer will only bend the tips of the mask fins. The base of those fins are too solid for the hair dryer to even do anything

That's alright, the tips were the only concern as the tray that head sits in appears to be undersized. It's a modest curve on the tips. I did notice that the leg joints/hips appear to be a rather large ballpeg on a pin, they're pretty much designed not to stretch wide at all for those thinking they're too tight, they don't appear to have much leeway to begin with. I was surprised at how well Wolverine stands without need for the sentinel base or doll hook stand either.

I always use a hot water soak.

Resets plastic to the mold shape, takes out those little shiny spots that can happen from plastic tags.

I do have to say after handling this Wolverine, it’s really brought me back to the days when I had the first 10” Deluxe Wolverine figure from Toy Biz back in 1993. Of course in an ironic twist back then, I went to Toys R Us that day to search for the 5” 2nd Edition Wolverine only to walk out with the 10” version of that figure and it was the Black and Gold edition. I wouldn’t stumble upon the 5” version until about a year later. And I wouldn’t see the 10” edition in classic colors until the late 00’s on eBay.

A lot of folks re-sharing an unsourced claim on socials about Funko being in really bad shape. If those crappy little dead-eyed statues drag down Mondo I’m going to be really upset.

Nightcrawler arrived today. While I'm still salty they cut the '92 portrait from the regular release, this one did turn out rather nice. This one is much better out of the box than Wolverine as the only semi-stuck joints are the waist and thigh swivel. Everything else is rather free and easy. The new stand looks like it's going to be much better than the old ones. There's some nice resistance to the bendy post and the claw gripping is lined with a soft material so it won't scuff the figure. Only problem is I can't figure out how to attach the claw to the post. The opening is way too small while the opposite end is threaded to screw into the base. There is a screw at the rear of the claw and I wonder if I'm supposed to loosen that first? The cap on the post also comes off, but I don't know if that's needed or not. I'm sure I'll figure it out somehow. The bendy tails are really nice though, probably the best bendy tail I've ever encountered (which would be a weird thing to say in any other context) and one of the rapiers has a bladeguard that pops off the pommel and came like that in the box so you can figure out which one is intended for the tail and which is not. I did heat up the gripping hands to slide the swords in, but I probably could have forced it without. Better safe than sorry.

I'd assume that the claw display arm pegs into the base and likely has to be forced as it likely wont come back out easily. This was one of the display stands meant to literally hold the entire figure up, whereas the others seemed more like props / doll stands.

The stand comes in four pieces: the X base, a plastic base for the post that plugs into the X base, the post itself, and the claw. The base for the post snaps in easy enough while the post has to be screwed into that. The claw is the wonky part. The solicitation images have the post going through it, but the opening is far too small. The claw is held together with a screw going through it horizontally and the curved “crotch” piece which is secured via two screws from the bottom. I took all the screws out and when the bottom crotch piece comes off so does a large, rubbery, mount that’s kind of like a gasket. I heated it up and muscled the post through it then reassembled it, which was a pain in the ass. I had to really squeeze it together to get the lone horizontal screw back through it which gives it a tighter grip. It’s on now, but it doesn’t look quite right and there’s no vertical movement to the claw. It works though, but I’m guessing it’s not supposed to be this difficult.

Got Nightcrawler today. I like how smooth the joints are. Total opposite from most of the Mondo figures I've gotten. Hopefully the TMNT boys function this smoothely.
