Wolverine arrived today capping off a week of many toy deliveries for me. He is definitely an improvement over the first Wolverine in this line as he's pretty much true sixth scale. I have him at 10.5" which would place him at 5'3" and that seems pretty good for Wolverine. If anything, he's a little short for the animated version. This is definitely the most "97" figure in the line as the details on his arms are pretty much from that show and not the 92 one. He does have one 92 head, but it's all in the "fins" on his mask as the exposed chin still reads 97 to me.
I forgot about the extra torso, but it's good I recalled it quickly as it was my clue to take the arms off when unboxing him. Mondo put plastic bags over his arms and into the shoulder joint so don't bother trying to rip through them. Arms and torso come apart easily which is nice and most of the joints are nice and smooth with some notable exceptions. The ball joints in the neck and hips are textured with raised bumps all over them to create a tighter joint, but both areas feel too tight. This approach isn't new for Mondo, but this time they look more substantial. It takes some finger strength to move the ball joint in the neck, but the hips were another matter. Mine didn't want to budge even with a decent amount of force applied - honestly probably too much force if your aim is to not break the figure. I basically gave the hips a "NECA bath" to free them up and them tried getting some lubricating oil into there once they were moving better. The end result wasn't overly successful as he appears to be returning to a condition closer to his out of box state than his warmed up one. I had similar issues with the Real Ghostbusters Egon I got in yesterday and I wonder if Mondo changed something at the factory. I also didn't notice any lubrication out of the box on either figure and I'm not sure why they would cut that from the factory. I may drop them a line just to suggest it be something monitored going forward because these things are pretty damn expensive.
Sculpt and paint though is very nice as is often the case with Mondo. The black panels on the torso are sculpted in and painted, but the black doesn't quite go to the edge of the sculpt which does bother me a little, though it's consistent on all parts so I'm assuming it's intentional. Do beware of paint rub at the belt and trunks. I've had it pop up already, but it wiped off easily. I worry if left alone though it might not. If you're looking for the claws, they're under the base for the stand. I sometimes don't even bother to take those out of the box so I was momentarily puzzled when I couldn't locate his claws. The sentinel head base is well done. It's mostly hollow, but the foot holds are pretty deep so he gets locked into it pretty well. Range at the joints not seized is what we have come to expect. The diaphragm joint continues to be pretty useless as I can't get it to budge on either torso. I know this is an aesthetics forward line, but I feel like they could improve that area without impacting the look of the figures without much issue.
