Magic the Gathering Legends

Has anyone else had a dud battle-damaged Spidey? He's legit the first legend I've bought in like, FIVE YEARS I haven't been able to properly fix the joints on. I refuse to pay full price again for him but I'm wondering if it's worth just putting a feeler out on the secondary market for one that works properly. I have the worst luck with stuck hip joints in other lines.

Just on the ML Reddit today I saw someone complaining about their Battle Damaged Spiderman's leg just pivoting off and it wont stay on (my 97 Emma Frost did the same thing, in addition to the right arm falling off at the bicep swivel), followed by another guy whose Maximum Deadpool shoulder peg ripped at the bicep swivel. Maybe this is Hasbro's new sales model for selling us the same figures we've already got for all eternity. Make the plastic so faulty that you'll always be in the market for the same characters.

Man, it's frustrating enough if a $19.99 figure fails, but if you are doing shoddy work on 40 or 50 dollar figures..

I was able to score a beat up Pete this morning from Target with the 10 off 40 deal, once I added a $2 Hot Wheels.

The plastic on Battle Damage Spidey is a lot softer than you'd want for something so articulated. I boiled the hips right away just to avoid any potential tearing. Great figure, but feels like you need to be a little more careful with crazy posing.

A Max figure breaking like that would be incredibly annoying, fortunately both EB Games and Amazon have good return policies - but as a Day 1 Legends collector, I can honestly say I've had the least amount of problems right out of the package than I have in a long time. As I've said before, Final Swing Spider-Man needed to be boiled right away. I had a bicep snap on one, and a hip joint tear on another. Since then, no real issues, which is pretty good. Because of my experience with random figure breakage bullshit over the past 25 years, I've conditioned myself to buy multiples of figures that I know will get a lot of action in figure photography or will be a massive pain in the ass to track down later *in case* they break. That's definitely sickness.

It really is wild how much of a step back the MTG Spidey is not just compared to the Max but even the two bucks before that. Like it's not a BAD figure, it's just a step backwards in how it feels compared to the WILD ROM in the last few Spidey figures.

Sounds like a rush job. I feel like there was a relatively short time between when these were announced and released. I don't think that has much bearing, since most of this stuff is in production long before solicits. But the limited neck range, fragile pegs, all point to some cost cutting, either in materials or in quality control, or both. However, I notice it only on beat up Pete. The rest feel pretty sturdy to me.

Perhaps, but not as aggravating as when then release a Retro or RYVs Spider-Man and then a few months later put a Spider-Man variant on a Sunfire body for no real great reason.

It's on the renew body right? I never liked that one.

So I'm not sure exactly what the issue is, but this seems to be the problem with Spider-Man's hips. Is this salvageable, or should I just return my unopened battle-damaged Spidey?

According to that post, and backing that up with my experience, you'll need a Dremel to sand down those hexagonal corners. I haven't modified mine, I'm just being as careful as I can in posing those hips. If you're not into either of those options, I'd say return it, because it's an expensive figure to potentially break.
