I know it took me a minute to get into it but I went to it immediately after a Deadwood rewatch so I was in "Shakespeare but make it Western" mode, but it hooked me pretty much immediately.

Looks like it's on AMC+, which is the second show this week I've wanted to watch and found out was on AMC+ so maybe I need to do a short term subscription to watch a few things this winter.

Yeah..... you should absolutely pay for shows you want to watch. That is correct and true. I have no counter position to this at all, matey.

I think I just gave up. When they started carving everything up into tiny fiefdoms. They took away the convenience, because I barely ever know where anything is anymore and if I feel like turning the TV on and just browsing, I've gotta open and exit like seven different streaming platforms to see what's available. They took away the original raison d'etre of streaming by divvying it up so much that you're paying as much for streaming as you used to be for Cable, or more. Then they said you're not paying ENOUGH so we're going to put ads in it, even though it was never supposed to be an ad-based service. Then you spend all that money and they cancel half the shows they make for no understandable reason, because there's no proper metric for determining success for streaming shows beyond 'did everyone watch the entire thing the second it was available?'

Oh, and don't forget they can just 'disappear' shows for tax purposes, like they did with the new Willow show. If you didn't pirate it... it simply doesn't exist anymore, in any meaningful way.
 
Now I will say, if it's something like what they did with Willow, fuck them. I do want writers, crew, and actors to get residuals from streaming so my preference is to watch things above board, but if they pull a show so they don't have to pay someone anymore? Fuck them, then you pirate. Same with books - if the publisher yoinked it off shelves and nobody has access anymore, get it any way you can.

Also why I'll buy physical media of a show if I can (ANDOR). I hate that streaming can yank access away on a whim. I'm waiting to see if Princess of Power was pulled from Netflix for tax purposes or if Paramount just wants their IP back and it shows up over there instead. Netflix is NOTORIOUS for fucking over crew - the reason so few of their shows go more than three seasons if if you start a fourth season the film crew reach a new level of benefits status Netflix doesn't want to pay. I'm never surprised when a show doesn't make it to S4.
 
I was reasonably okay with having Netflix, Prime, and Disney+. But then I started to realize more and more that the stuff I wanted to watch was spread out over like.. 3 or 4 other platforms that I didn't have, and then I just realized how absolutely absurd it would be to try to keep up with that and pay for all of it. Especially when, in a lot of cases, I'm paying for services so I can watch one show.
Like Disney. I was literally paying for Disney+ for the ONE original show they'd be airing at any given time, and half of those shows weren't even good.

And wait.. did Netflix take Princesses of Power down? My wife and I were planning a rewatch of that sometime next year.
 
I want to get back into The Boys. I actually had to give myself a mental health break from that show because it was so fucking depressing. Then I started Gen V and within the first episode I was like 'nope, this is included in my mental health break.'
 
I get that. There are plenty of things I won't watch for that reason. The Boys for me lands fairly cartoonishly so it can't depress me the way something like Handmaid's Tale can. I peaced out of that after 2 seasons.

The Boys is definitely ridiculous and cartoonish, but it still hits enough notes of just everything is awful all the time that I needed to not for a while. I love the show, though. Definitely will get back to it, I hope.

Leaving Feb 1 I believe. It's up now but leaving shortly.

Oh shit, I started Gen V but then got sidetracked and never went back. I got about halfway through S1 trying to get caught up to watch S2 (all caught up on the Boys though.)

We were watching that for a bit and then Steph and I turned to each other and said "we'll need to watch this when things get better, it's too real now." And things only got worse.
