I prefer a weekly release model, but long seasons are bad, and I'll die on that hill. There's no 24-episode season that wouldn't be better as 10. With 10 episodes, only the best material makes it to the audience.
No way, man. With longer seasons you get to know the characters better. Smaller scale episodes with good character development are just as fun. Think 90's Star Trek. No way Deep Space Nine is as good a show if it's just 40 episodes of the Dominion War and then done.

70 episodes would have been around the end of season 2 for both TNG and DS9; and both were still pretty ass by the end of S2 compared to what either ended up becoming. Hell, VOY was still stuck dealing with the fucking Kazon at the end of S2. This 10eps a season idea is god-awfully bad for making a show into something beloved for, *a-hem*... Generations.

While I agree that Next Gen era Trek benefited from the long seasons, I feel like those were the only ones I watched where that was the case. Half the eps in a season might generally be mid but you often got great little character moments too that fleshed out the cast, something the modern 10 ep shows sorely lack.

But yeah, as far as most other kinds of show go, I think 13 is probably the limit, and 10 generally the sweet spot.

As for actual currently watching chat, this week's Pluribus wins best line of the week:

"..would you..like..an atom bomb?"
