Last Movie Watched

It was the first DVD I got (they were sold out of Matrix) to test my Gateway DVD Drive.
This is going to sound bad but I promise I'm not a huge weirdo, Fight Club was my first DVD. And that's because the first DVD release of it was just BANANAS loaded with extra stuff and I've always been a process junky. I think there's still stuff to recommend about that movie, but unfortunately it was also an early roadmap for a whole subculture of hyper-toxic masculine bullshit (once again people missing all the subtext).

Fight Club is awesome, but you need to know how to read it. I saw it as a high schooler in theaters and even then I got it. Read the book in college and it made it more clear.

And yeah, I remember that DVD. Memento also had a dope set. I miss all of that.

Man, Memento. Not only was that the "Guy Pierce fan for life" movie but also I fucken miss being a moody-ass teenage filmmaker and being able to go watch utterly random but great movies at the theater a few times a week and not feel like I'd have to sell a kidney to live like that.

I remember when it first came out and a prominent local film critic wrote a fairly scathing review about it being potentially dangerous and inspiring fascist tendencies. Younger me, seeing only really the comedic/satire aspect, was surprised and disappointed in him, thinking he'd lost the plot...

..if the poor guy hadn't snuffed it a few years later, no doubt he'd be saying "I bloody told you, you imbeciles", whoops.
