What video games are you playing? What video games are you excited about? Let's hear it.

I never posted about Mass Effect 1, which I beat for the first time in August.

I tried Mass Effect 1 when it first came out in 2007. I couldn't get into it. For some reason, I bought the sequel anyway and became a superfan of the series.

When I bought the Legendary Collection on Steam (for like $3, too, totally insane), I wanted to try my damndest to finish it. It doesn't hook you as well as 2 or 3, but once you get into it, it's phenomenal. It's a classic for a reason. I'm glad I gave it another chance. Shepard isn't as three-dimensional as she is in the sequels, but everything else holds up incredibly well.

I'm an awful gamer. Like I'll play GTA but I've never done the quests. I can build a park for five hours in sandbox mode on the Jurassic World game and be really happy. I think it's some kinda attempt at having control if I wanna analyze myself. But I play a lot of COD with my son, mostly zombies, though I really enjoy the campaigns on the Modern Warfares.

I'm currently playing through the Silent Hill 2 remake but it gets me super anxious and I have to take a few days break after playing for even part of a day. Breaks right through my anxiety meds so in hindsight probably not the best choice of games for me.

As I said in the previous forum, I'm continuing to go pretty hard on Space Marine 2, and it's not just the satisfying gameplay or the fact that I really love Warhammer. I realized that toy collector mentality hits me in video games, too. Grinding away to unlock more cosmetics so I can dress up my digital space marine action figure is weirdly rewarding. Thinking it over, I do this in basically any video game where it's an option.
Even in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, which I'm also playing right now, I maintain a collection of different unique armors and weapons and I genuinely enjoy cycling through different options in the inventory and just seeing how cool they look even though I know I won't use them anymore because they're sub-optiminal to the point where it's just not going to be fun. But I also can't bring myself to sell off items from my coolest outfits because sometimes I just want to throw them on and see how cool they looked again.

So weird. I'm literally a collector right down to my bones.

I remember when I played Little Big Planet, I'd change my costume depending on the theme of the level.

Hell yeah. I'm endlessly weirded out by people that played Red Dead Redemption 2 and never changed Arthur's pre-set costume. I changed that dude's costumes literally every game day for the most part.

I probably shouldn't tell you that on City of Heroes I only ever used the 1st costume I designed in the character creator and didn't even use the other slots.

That's only weird if the costume sucked. I'm a big proponent of superhero costumes NOT changing frequently because that's what makes them iconic and being iconic is sort've part of being a superhero.

What I did do, however, was create like five different characters so I could still experiment with the character creator without having to change a given character's costume ever. My main, Caliburn, also had the exact same costume from beginning to end, with the exception of adding a sweet cape once I was high enough level to unlock capes. I don't remember anymore what that was - level 10 or something?

Level 20. And you had to do that pain in the ass cape mission where you had to prevent the Lost from smashing the memorial or something.

But yeah I like for them to have one look and I had so many different characters that it was stressful enough getting one good look for each of them. I surely couldn't have done two or more.

20, right! Yeah. The funny thing was - the cape didn't really even fit my original idea for my main character. I just wanted to do it to do it and then ended up really liking the look of it.

I think I only ended up running 4 characters -- 3 heroes and a villain. But I MADE a LOT of characters. Ultimately I'd either end up not really liking the design I'd gone with, or not liking the power/ability choices I'd made, so I'd just overwrite and start over. I made a Punisher/Deathlok combo character like six different times before I got it right and really enjoyed playing it.

Man, that game with modern graphics would be the fucking best. I had so much fun. Still haven't had the time/energy to start it up again on my computer. But it's on my list of things to do.

Missing Worlds Media is working on a spiritual modern successor to CoH called City of Titans. They had a successful Kickstarter a while back. They do updates every now and then but I haven't really been following. I need to read up and see if they actually have a beta date yet.

Thanks for sharing that. Very interesting. I'll have to keep an eye on this, myself.

As I've gotten older, I've gotten more into the idea of rewatching, rereading, and replaying the best stuff I've seen/read/played. I never used to have patience for it.

RDR2 is by no means one of my favorite games, but I respect the hell out of the craft. I'm thinking about giving it another shot. I know you're super high on it.
