LAAT/i Gunship Haslab

Really close to matching the first day total of the Cantina, but not a good sign that it has taken over 2 weeks to get to this spot. Not sure how this is going to go, but it doesn't look good right now.

But in a way I do think it's a bit of a dream project in that it's more a replica of an awesome ship than a toyified version, dumbed down for kids.
This is where I think the collector driven side of things may be a problem for Hasbro with Haslabs, because there really isn't anything wrong with the toyified versions that are out there - it is a toy line ultimately, not a replica line - and they are fun and decent toys. I think they have drifted away somewhat from the idea of "here is something we can't sell at Walmart but is still a toy" to "here is a better quality/detailed piece then we normally do" and are pricing and designing differently.

Well it finally (just barely) passed the first day total of the Cantina (3,152) and it only took a little over 2 weeks. I think we'll need to see how this goes after the Snow C.A.T. ends to see if there is a chance for this to fund because right now it doesn't look good.

For several hundred dollars a pop, I do want something of a replica line. Haslabs aren't toys you buy for kids. What's great about this Haslab is that it's as close to a screen accurate version of the gunship as you're ever going to get for the 4" line without the concessions that have to be made to sell it as "a toy"— be it size, details, etc.

At the end of the day, Haslabs are centerpiece-type display pieces for the toy lines and I definitely see that here. They just went insane on the pricing. If this were $300 0r $350, I feel pretty confident this would already be funded.

I saw someone make a good point about this Haslab. They were talking with some others and someone made the usual "Haslabs are supposed to be dream projects." His retort was that this is a dream project to someone(s). I kind of agree with that thinking.

However the reality is that if there was a wide spread want for this project it would be much farther along than it currently is at this point. I agree that the price is too high for what you get. I mean it is only $50 less than the Ghost and from what I can tell it isn't quite the same real estate as the Ghost. Plus they seemingly fell back into the tier trap. I see lots of people saying they want those Jedi, but not anywhere near enough to pay the Haslab price. Also I see a lot of comments about how there should have been lots of clones, or unique clones, done as tiers to help fill the Gunship rather than 3 Jedi who already have releases at this scale (maybe not TVC but still 3.75").

Back past the first day of the Cantina again, and should stay there now based on the number of backers that drop every morning. Still not looking good though.

Which I understand, I guess I am more questioning whether they need to be close to $500 or if there is a middle ground of "better than we could do at retail, but still being consistent with the details and aesthetics of the line".

Not disagreeing with you, I am more disagreeing with Hasbro's choices in this regard at times.

I'll add that what many have said they disliked about the cantina - no exterior walls, no floor - is what I liked about it - it still seems like a big toy to me.

Now nicely entrenched above the first day total of the Cantina, but still a long way to go, even just to 50% funding.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Like I said, I'd love to own something so close to what showed up in the movies. This is one of the few 4" scale SW vehicles that would tempt me at this point. (a really nice ARC-170 being another. The E-Wing almost got me. ) Realistically, though, middle ground would be better in this case.

And sadly, I think Hasbro could offer something pretty close to what we're getting with this Haslab for $200 or so. Slightly smaller, no tiers, maybe sell the pilots separately. Use the Dragon Man made-to-order method for selling it. They'd do a lot better than they're doing now.

Still crawling along, but I wonder what will happen once the Snow C.A.T. is finished funding. I don't imagine there will be a any sort of bump in the numbers short term. However this might get more eyeballs on it once it is the only game in town.

Someone in that godforsaken TVC Facebook group posted this graph. Can't bode too well when you're behind the failed Rancor at this point.

That’s a very telling graph. The Rancor felt like it only limped around few backers each day. If this is doing worse than that, it really doesn’t bode well. The tiers kind of killed that project and the tiers certainly aren’t helping this one.

It's hard to compared very well because of the big differences.

First being of course the Rancor was Black Series. Then they were still pulling the crap of not revealing the tiers until something unlocked. Finally the tiers were utter garbage for the Rancor. I mean a straight rerelease of the Gamorrean Guard, a cardboard backdrop with bones and then finally a new Luke? Not Rancor trainer, or Oola? So terribly executed. Also the Rancor lost backers multiple times during the funding period before finally just losing backers consistently.

So while we can argue about the quality of the tiers for the LAAT they are at least better than the Rancor based on desire of the figures and all tiers actually being figures. That combined with the fact that this is still moving forward with backers (hell the Snow C.A.T. even had one day where it lost backers) is a sign of how different these projects can be for backing. I think there is still an outside chance this could fund, but it will be tough. A lot of things are coming up that could sway it either way. I think the Snow C.A.T. ending will probably help the LAAT and there is still almost a month for people to get past all the recent preorders and SDCC purchases that have been eating up money.

So while it doesn't look good, it could still turn it around.

Still struggling along but continuing in the right direction. Again I will wait to see how this goes once the Snow C.A.T. has ended.
