JOYTOY 1/18 Scale TMNT

Thanks, everyone.

I'm still pretty destitute, but I sold a bunch of shit earlier this week so I could get the Jada exclusives yesterday, and used the leftover to grab Casey from CoolToysClub. He was only $33 shipped, which for some reason I thought these things were $50 apiece before shipping, so I thought that was really good, and they have everyone in stock except Shredder (of course lol), so I have ANOTHER fucking line to save up for lmfao.

Buy my shit in the Sell section! 😅

So, uh, just skip this if you don't care about my useless nerdy speculation, but the gist is that I have a feeling there's a new wave reveal imminent. They rarely go too long between them, and the last one was revealed June 4. Lately, their daily tweets have been promoting the most recent wave again, and looking back, the pattern was similar last time. Every couple days showcasing another recent offering until the reveal at the beginning of the month. Plus, the newest wave is supposedly releasing in July, according to LT Crate. Just saying. If we get to say August 10 or so with nothing, we'll all know I'm full of shit and wasting my brain!

I was looking back at my preorders and also realized that wave was supposed to be coming in July. Having to pre-pay is nice sometimes. You can just enjoy the anticipation of fun new figures coming vs. "Am I going to be able to afford this with a gazillion other things coming this month?"

Any thoughts on who might be in this next wave, oh reader of tea leaves?

I'd love to see Traag, Baxter, or Rat King and anything completely out of left field.

Those all sound great. Leatherhead's been on my mind as well. Wingnut and Screwloose too. But I'd also kind of like to see something that wasn't in the '87 show at all, just to confirm that other characters are on the table. I suppose whatever they do for Baxter could go some way towards that, but with android Kang being a thing, I don't see them doing a non-fly version of Baxter in this line. And to be clear, I WANT the fly version!

That's my biggest want, something not in the show.

Show me Halfcourt, Doctor El, Hothead, Sandstorm, King Lionheart, Walkabout, Monty Moose, Sgt Bananas, or Scale-Tail and I will really believe the sky is the limit with this line.

So.... I made the mistake of letting myself get into this line. I've got Slash and Leonardo on their way to me right now. I chose those specifically because Leo is my favorite Turtle, and Slash is my favorite villain. Given the cost of these figures, I feel like I've gotta draw a line and say that I definitely cannot have them all, or even a whole 'main cast' situation. I've got Super7, NECA Cartoon, NECA movie, vintage, and I want those Origins-style ones as well. I don't NEED another big collection of Turtles. But a couple of figures fighting on the shelf? Hell yeah.

However.... there's basically zero chance I skip on a King Lionheart if they make him. Not getting that character in the Super7 line still stings, regardless of how I feel about Super7 generally, or most of their figures.

Okay guys... I am very torn here. My Leo and Slash arrived today and I like them a whole bunch. I AM a little disappointed that JoyToy didn't use the articulation they've become known for with their Warhammer stuff to give these guys more ROM - especially in the shoulders. But I knew that going in.
I also immediately pulled off Leo's thigh-guards because I hated them.

Thing is, I really don't need to be collecting a whole new TMNT line - especially at this price point. I told myself I'd just grab my favorite characters (Leo and Slash, naturally) and be done. But now I kinda really want more.

THEN, I threw them on a shelf with my Savage Crucible figures and kind of love it. They're so small that they actually look like mutated/uplifted Turtles. They're sort've Hobbit-sized, if you will. It works weirdly well. But if I just make these part of my fantasy collection, it locks me out of any human-like characters, really. And anything based on huge creatures like the Triceratons.

Do I need more of these? Can I just be happy with what I have and stop being such a goddamn toy collector for one goddamn second? Time will tell.

Ha, I fell into this line in a similar way as far as "using" them for something else. I do not buy 1/18 scale at all, but I've been buying the Beasts of the Mesozoic dinosaur figures ehich are mostly 1/18 and picked these up to display alongside those. And then I just kept liking each new offering more and more...

I don’t know what it is, but I’m just so charmed by the scale. I feel like that villain from Harvey Birdman that loves small things. It does stink though that the worst articulated figures in the line that I’ve handled (I don’t have the Foot, Splinter, or Triceratons) are the turtles. It means I’ll be further tempted if they do a 2.0 type of release for them. I can still find interesting poses for them, but they could also be a lot better with ball-peg inner shoulder joints and more clearance at the wrists and hips. I’m also surprised no one seems interested in doing the hinged shell joint Bandai incorporated into their SHF turtles that lets the shell move up and down. It’s minor, which probably explains why no one wants to do it, but it allowed the shell to get out of the way of the head if you needed more range. Especially looking up.

I do enjoy the line though and I hope the next wave ships before more tariff nonsense goes into effect.
