JOYTOY 1/18 Scale TMNT

Wow, so it’s going to affect overseas companies too?! (Or is this Hatter making guesses, I refuse to watch his videos)

But eh, I guess it’s for the best, I’ve given friends, family, and coworkers shit for supporting Harry Potter since JK is a piece of human shit, and it’s honestly getting to where I don’t know if I can continue supporting Ninja Turtles with the Ellisons holding the license… if this is the end of the line for everything, then at least the difficult choice to say goodbye was made for me.
 
Hatter has sources, mostly in retail.

In the past he's called things correctly.

Specifically, he says he has two sources in retail that tell him JT is done, and that if you read between the lines, it's probably everybody not Mattel. The argument being that Mattel doesn't need the money the way Playmates did and can afford just to sit on it and do whatever they want.

I don't really know how the licensing ever worked if that's true or not.

Regarding NECA, he speculates, as much as we all did, that's why their other toy fair showings like DuckTales are a strong hint they're also out.

This was the biggest aspect of their Toy Fair showings that really hammered home for me that this is likely it.

Showing big license pickups, such as Disney Afternoon, Muppets, and McDonalds-- especially when in contrast to the abnormally *very* few TMNT offerings.

With Trevor telling me "We've done a lot", I can certainly read between the lines here.
 
I mean, it seems likely Mattel doesn't continue a lot of the licenses, sure. But I also heard that Joytoy was done with TMNT after the van, and then they solicited the robo B&R so we'll see is the boring answer im left with.
 
Hatter obviously knows more than me, but I'd be surprised if this particular case has much to do with Mattel. The license for JoyToy is up, Paramount has new owners, and licensing costs are going up. They may have just seen what the price to renew is, looked at what they've already pumped out, and concluded "we're good." With robo B&R still on the way I would not be surprised if they sneak another set or two out before the license is up, unless Paramount just stops approving things since they know JoyToy isn't continuing.

As for Mattel, they only have as much power and say as Paramount gives them. If they paid Paramount a shit ton of money to squash the other companies then that's certainly possible. It's also possible companies like NECA are going to balk at the price of renewal since their profits have likely already peaked with TMNT. NECA has also been chasing its next TMNT for a while and I don't think something like DuckTales has anything more to do with it than that. It's bad business to have a lot of your success tied up in one license that can be pulled at a moment's notice. We'll see, but I am certainly expecting a contraction in the TMNT landscape come 2027.
 
If Mattel puts the kibosh on the Lingjihun TMNT line and I never get the Bebop/RockSteady/Baxter/Slash/Splinter/Shredder/Foot Soldier they've already shown I will never buy another piece of Mattel's refuse-quality plastic again. Full stop!
