I received my Hiya 91 Beam Effect Goji yesterday and the figure is very nice. This figure is almost a complete 2.0 from the “standard edition “ and not just because of the added paint deco on the dorsal plates and the included beam. Let me break it down
1) For starters this figure has a new paint deco across the entire body. The body itself has a bit of a wash. I’ve heard it described as an olive brown but in hand it kind of has a bluish tint, which makes sense after all since Godzilla is firing off his atomic breath while his spines are illuminated, he technically should have a bluish tint to his body since he’s bathed in the gentle glow of his powers when they’re activated.
But that’s not the only change. His dorsal plates that continue down the tail are a duller color than they were before, and his hand and toe claws are more of a yellowish brown. Also his eyes have been “fixed” once again but in my opinion it’s not necessarily an improvement, at least not for this suit. His eyes definitely have the correct pattern but they are larger in size and are more brightly colored than before. He actually kind of reminds me of the Bato-Goji suit from 1992 when Godzilla faced off against the Battra and mothra larvea in “Godzilla vs Mothra: Battle for the Earth”. So it’s not technically the correct pattern for a 91 Gojira
2) the articulation on this figure is much more sturdy than before. I didn’t exactly have pieces falling off the first release but they were at least easier to move. The joints on the newer version have a bit of resistance and you might have to heat them up with a hair dryer to free them.
3) the figure also feels heavier than the standard release and less rubbery. It feels like a solid plastic toy. So it is more similar both in materials and construction to the 91 King Ghidorah.
