Harvinger Studios, Savage Crucible

Just got my stuff from the in-stock order. Won't have time to unbox til later tonight but I want to shout out the branded boxes they use because holy crap the art is cool but it's so cool it's like begging for porch pirates to steal it, you KNOW something worth stealing is in this box

So I went a little overboard with Harvinger - I'd set aside money to get a couple of Frazetta figures but after Teegra broke like glass I, ah, reallocated that cash for twice as many Savage Crucible figures than Frazetta (captain no-willpower here, but I was MAD about the break). Overall, I love that these guys come pretty stacked with stuff, but I find I always take off a bit of armor or gear to get to the really great base figure underneath alll the armor and accessories. They all needed a hot water bath to loosen up their knees, feet, and elbows, but after that, good to go.

Kreiger was my number one want - I just love a moody scarred up wanderer barbarian type. The layering of his left pauldron is really clever, but I ended up taking off the top layer (the skull etc) for a leaner profile. I can't get the scabbard into the hole in his baldric but honestly, kinda love that he's carrying it around like an unwanted child instead.

Warrior with ball and chain (I mean is this Conan? Really?) - very clever way to hook the cape on. I'm legit impressed by the engineering there. I do wish he came with an alternate head, but otherwise he's pretty much perfect.

Varnoks - I think I fell victim to my enthusiasm here, because I'd wanted Kreiger and the Warrior so much I was like GIVE ME ALL THREE BARBARIANS! I'll probably permanently use the calm, bearded head. I feel a bit wasteful setting so much gear aside. But everything he comes with is very cool - I REALLY appreciate that these guys make their armor in a way that doesn't involve dismantling the fucking figure to swap stuff out. The brand scar on his forearm is a great concept but looks a little decal-y, but not like you can't swap it out if you don't like it.

Ko'Mo - I hemmed and hawed for like an hour before checkout over this guy and honestly,Ko'Mo is a fucking work of ART. He probably comes the least stacked with gear, but the lava/sea-monster skin armor pops, his scales are gorgeous, his weapons are perfect, the stumpy tail is inspired, and his head sculpt tells a whole story on its own. I clearly didn't read up on the two types of feet on the lizard dudes though - I thought the UNhinged toes were the old/bad feet. He came with both though.

Lastly, my love of articulated animals sold me on the accessory pack. It's so much stuff for 30 bucks I simultaneously regret it and can't regret it. The lizard is rad. Only regret is the rats don't come off their pegs cos I'd like to use them as set dressing in other places instead of always on one of the platforms.

Mine are arriving today, I'm looking forward to putting Warrior with Ball and Chain (who Savage Crucible said they went with this guy because he is specifically NOT Conan, but make of that what you will.) with my Frazetta Conan, Norseman, and Mythic Legions Legendary Barbarian; all of whom are posed fighting Shuma Gorath.

But, Krieger. Krieger is the one I want in hand so much. I'm playing a scavenger Barbarian in DnD right now and couldn't resist when I read Krieger is that to a tee. Work is gonna feel long today.

My dungeon set is out for delivery. I'm REALLY looking forward to messing with this and building out a cool scene for Conan & Red Sonja.

Now, if Heroic Signatures would actually ship my Battle of Black Stone Conan I'd be REALLY happy!

Kreiger is worth every penny. I think it's their best face sculpt. He's the one I can't stop messing with 24 hours later.

And now to set up the Warrior with the Frazetta Conan posed as if to say no no no, HE is Conan, I am someone commercially distinct from him.

I believe they said it would ship in February/March. It was quietly delayed. At least that was what I read on another forum. I don't proclaim to know 100% if this is true.

Well, Krieger and Warrior with B and C arrived and they are awesome. I love the way the joints work and the poseability it allows for. I think the ankles need a redesign, but that's me nit-picking. These figures are what I really wanted Mythic Legions to be more like. I was also surprised by the heft on these guys. They are dense with plastic. Varnok, a set of stands, the dungeon set, and both graphic novels should be here Monday, that's how quickly I was convinced by the quality and fun of these figures to buy more product.

Docsilence thanks for turning me onto how fun Krieger is.

Glad to see I'm not the only one who's already shopping for more after the first shipment arrived. I keep going back to take a look at Nashorn and Veteris.

Agree on the ankles being the weakest part but still nothing bad about them, just could be as innovative as the ankles and knees. Every quiet moment in my office today I was posing one or the other.

I'm really glad I already caved and preordered Elric from BBTS a few months back because I'm obsessed after this wave.

Yeah, I knew I should've bought at least two figures. I got Ball and Chain yesterday, but I better wait at least a week before adding another because I need to pay Amiami, Akuma is processing soon from BBTS, and I think Amazon is going to charge for Hit & Run and Lifeline, if they haven't already.

Do these guys have much twist at the lower waist? I let my figure warm up to room temp and everything moves well without heat except that point. The forward movement on the butterflies is quite a bit better than most figures, so many never come close to a decent two handed sword pose. One of the few things I would change is the hardness of the hand. I felt I had to pry them open to squeeze in the sword.

Both of mine are also limited at the waist, but I'm not sure if it's design or just needs a little play to loosen it up.

I also saw in a review that they changed the ratcheting system for the ankles on Varnok, so my one issue might be a non-starter for Varnok.

Damn, these figures are freakin' good! I can't wait to see what the did with Death Dealer. I wish I had more attachment to Elric so I cared about getting that one.

Not sure if it'd be the same for everyone, but the human figures I got had kinda stiff waist movement until I gave 'em a hot water bath. The heat freed up ALL the joints, actually. All three humans were really jammed up but only needed a hit of very hot water to fix it. Can get a really good HUNCH going on the Warrior swinging that ball and chain now that I couldn't reight out of the box.

Funny that Ko'Mo had the smoothest joints though since I had some tough ratcheting issues to loosen up on the other scaled folk.

I think my only remaining beef with the figures is they're so spiky sometimes my hands legit hurt after posing them! At least the ones with pointed armor. Like, a few of these guys could blind an intruder if you threw them.

I think the hands being too stiff is a byproduct of them wanting the wrist pegs to be as solid as possible (for no-heat swapping). But yeah, they could definitely tone that down just a tiny bit. Not too much, though. I actually prefer a figure that you can 'play' with and his weapons don't flop around or easily get knocked out of his hand.

I'm having the opposite reaction to the hands - yeah, they're stiff, but I'm sick to my back teeth of Mythic Legions figures having paint scrape off when you swap weapons or those stupid stumpy pegs wearing down over time so if you put a full-weight weapon in their hand for a bit on the shelf the and just falls out. And while Classified is my favorite line, there's a weird inconsistency with their grips that make them tough - sometimes they just come with hands that aren't designed to hold the, ah, girth of the weapons they come with. Although the lizard guys in Crucible basically attack you when you swap weapons with the ferocity of a cat refusing to be given medication. I'm shocked they haven't drawn blood.
