Harvinger Studios, Savage Crucible

Got Nin Vilimir today from Articulated Empire (never shopped from them before - pleasantly fast shipping!). You all are right, Nin is just a banger of a figure. Mine's knees are a little tight in the ratchets but that's my only beef with him, otherwise just a beautifully ugly bastard. Fills a very specific gap in my fantasy action figures, too, with a lizardfolk/dragonborn sort of style (the Mythic Legions dragonboys are gorgeous figures but Too Damned Big to be perfect for me.

Anyway, for all my whinging about which ones to get, Jaeger hits the spot for my love of were-creatures and Nin for weird lizard things. Gonna keep an eye out for if any of the barbarians restock but I'm pretty solid on these two for now.

They've been showing off that dwarf for probably a couple of years at this point. Very cool -- can't wait for it to come out. I hope we get a more fully-armored one in the future as well.

Agreed. Love fantasy Dwarves. So I'm looking forward to seeing what else Savage Crucible will offer for that race.

Thought of a few more points from that video podcast the other week. Regarding horses, they kinda dodged the question and may have mentioned a partnership or so. One of the reps later mentioned the Fish Toys horses. I got the feeling they're not making their own horse.

Also, Rob mentioned making all kinds of other races/armies from fantasy books. He discussed snakemen and said they shouldn't have tails and legs. One or the other. They either have a tail for their lower half. Or their tails evolved into 2 legs. IE they won't have tails and legs on the same figure.

I got the Battlecat looking special lizard guy this weekend and one of the lizard imperial guards off the e-collectibles booth. 55 each vs 75 and tax on the site.

Too easy.

I really love special Battlecat lizard guy. Not one for homage figures usually, but he's so cute.

I love when companies do weird little homage figures like that.
For the record, I don't like when companies just ape their off-brand versions of every character from a franchise just because they can. There's a line. SC is doing a great job, though.

Yes, please.

I'm fine with that. I think it's admirable that they kind of know what their lane is and want to stay in it. I also think it's admirable to want to share the space with other creators that are doing different things than them rather than just 'we can do that ourselves and take that market share.' Good on 'em.

What's the homage?
Green, yellow stripes, waxy dark red armor.

It is only now occurring to me that they have a battle cat homage lizard man and a He-Man homage with Who-Man. Like, I knew both were homages separately, but my brain never clicked that they were meant to go together.

I'm gonna shit on the 4H again, so cover your eyes if that makes your panties twist up:

This is something I love about how SC did their homages (BFS did this too) where the homage isn't actually super obvious unless you are pretty astute or already know about it. Who-Man is mostly just the name and a bit of the head-sculpt. Maybe you could argue the color of the loincloth piece. Besides that, he doesn't dress like He-Man. It's not super obvious. Lizard dude is a fuckin' lizard man, just using those classic BC colors. Boss Fight did that green skeleton wearing purple armor, and even had the Spirit of Grayskull on the shield. But if you didn't know that was a MOTU reference... it's just a green skeleton wearing purple Greek armor with a spooky shield.

Then I look over and gag with revulsion that the endlessly uncreative 4H just basically do bootleg MOTU characters constantly. It's literally just 4H re-interpretations of MOTU characters. It's not creative. It's not even interesting. It's just 'we made Man-E-Faces, but shittier and more expensive.' Also, someone should tell them it's an homage if you do it a few times. Somewhere around the 'we've remade 70% of the vintage characters' mark, you're probably just doing IP theft.

Which is fine. I don't give a fuck about IP theft, if I'm being honest. It's dressing it up as something it isn't that bothers me. It's the dishonesty.
