Harvinger Studios, Savage Crucible

I really like the Cthulhu man but I wish he was less monstrous. I wish the left side of his body was normal.

I guess I just want an Illithid. Makes sense.

I was literally just eyeballing him as an illithid stand-in. Maybe an illithid who had a REALLY BAD DAY.

Apropos of nothing, I had a reader stop by the booth to give me a plush illithid at Fan Expo Boston last weekend and it's somehow impossibly adorable. Maybe we judge mindflayers too harshly.

Do we know which bodies the head pack heads work for?
Just for the fish dudes? I -believe- there's a head in there for each of the fish bodies except for the Slate. But don't quote me on that.

Put the head on a Nashorn body. Or on a lizard Slate body. Boom.

I do love creepy bastards who crawl out of the ocean at night and worship mad gods though.
And there it is, you're screwed. You've just mentally committed to at least 3 or 4 of these.

Love the fish dudes. I have bird dudes, cat dudes and lizard dudes, so why not?

I am pretty confident that three of the extra heads and leg/arm swaps are for the Fathom Scout, Abyss Dreadnaught and League Striker figures. The colors seem off for the fourth head to go with Savage figure based on the prototype pics, but seems to match what I assume is the initial render.

Bottom line is I would absolutely have cosmic aberrant horror fish men fight literally every line of action figures I own. Joes? Yes. Avengers? Without a doubt. Mythic Legions? Of course. Okay maybe not Star Wars but otherwise...

Truly goofy aesthetic question for folks who know more about fighting with swords than I do: I want to set up Jaeger with sword in one hand, claws ready in the other. Would you do claws on his dominant hand and sword on the other, or main hand sword, off-hand claws? (Of course he's probably ambidextrous but just wondering how you envision a monstrous character with sharp claws fighting, visually).

I initially passed on Harbinger of the Abyss during the KS because I really disliked the asymmetry of his feet/legs despite loving the rest of him. After getting other figures and realizing how easy they are to pop-n-swap I feel pretty certain I can cobble together a better look. Long way of saying BBTS got my money for that guy.

Well.....

If you imagine that he's primarily attacking with his dominant hand (he should) and that he has a specific dominant hand, then you have to ask yourself which thing he's using as his primary offensive implement. In the majority of historical systems for using two weapons at once we tend to find one weapon attacks more and one weapon defends more. In this case, I doubt he'd be using his claws very defensively because, you know, he'd get his hand cut off.
But also, his hand has essentially no reach and against opponents with any skill at all he'll be dead if he's trying to get close enough to slap-fight them.

Just my interpretation, but if pressed I'd say he shouldn't be treated like he has two weapons at all. I'd treat him like he's doing various types of saber/dussack fighting; fighting primarily with his sword and keeping his free hand close to his body. In these systems, your free hand is used for grappling maneuvers. Jaeger would have the added benefit that instead of grabbing an elbow or inside a shoulder, he can lash out a claw attack and maybe disable the opponent there and then.

I'd say his primary hand should have the sword. Requires more dexterity than reaching out to scratch someone.

Me following up a Damien post about swords:

That's how I was leaning - off-hand for quick random strikes but using is dominant hand for more reach and getting more for the money with each swing.

Regarding fish guy heads.

Accessory pack heads: Abyss x1, League x1, Savage x1.
Head pack: Abyss x1, League x1, Savage x1, Scout x1, Slate x6.

The head pack may have been exclusive to Savage Crucible themselves for the preorder, although they'll probably have some for an in-stock sale. I don't see it on BBTS.

Regarding the octopus guy. I see his left arm as some kind of mutation and not purposeful change. Can he still hold something in it? Seems so. He could use it to wield a weapon or grab someone. Would he use it as a shield against a bladed weapon? Probably not, unless he's desperate, and his tentacles can grow back. Although I'm not exactly sure what the issue is, unless someone just prefers two normal arms for him. Frankly, I didn't order him via the KS, but I did preorder him from BBTS (since I've been really impressed with this line after getting them in hand).

For the fish guys, I ordered 4 via the KS. Preordered 3 more and the aks and head packs. And now have 3 more on preorder via BBTS. While I would have never guessed I'd be wanting to many fish people, the line has been fantastic so far. And they could make great enemies or allies of Mer-Man and Namor. If we ever get a Marvel Legends Attuma, he'll have a ready made army for him to lead.

Oooh, I didn't even realize there was a separate head pack. Appreciate the clarification.
