Ghostbusters General Thread

It had been free on YouTube for awhile from the official account. I wonder if that was moved to Roku?

I'm not sure. I didn't realize it had been on YouTube. I watched the whole show a few years back and it really holds up well.

I got the first DVD set of the show and really liked how the animation held up. That was when you could still get good stuff cheap out of Japan and Korea. I found it hard to just sit and watch though since these cartoons were very formulaic. Holds up better than TMNT, but I can only do an episode or two before I check out.

The Toy Anxiety/Yes Have Some channel has a look at the Venkman/Samhain set. It was provided by Mondo and it's basically just a quick overview. I don't think Craig is accustomed to doing full reviews or anything so don't expect a full breakdown - it's pretty basic. It does look like the figures essentially match the renders and prototypes though so I think people are going to be pleased. Maybe not 200 bucks pleased, but pleased enough. I do wish he took the time to try to get Venkman into a better firing pose. It looks like Mondo didn't give the figure full butterfly joints, but there's definitely some lateral play on the shoulders so it's probably just a ball peg with a cap. I know it's just an accessory, but damn does Slimer look good.

The figures look awesome, but what the hell am I going to do with that giant box that I feel compelled to not throw out? And yes, I was hoping for a firing pose too. Holding the neutrona wand is not a big deal, it’s a decent firing pose that is hard to achieve.

Heh I watched just the first part of it to see if he happened to pronounce Samhain correctly, then checked the comments to see if anyone corrected him. I know it's a weird Irish word though. Just wanted to see.

I always thought the character was intentionally or unintentionally pronounced Sam Hain in the original cartoon. But now I can't remember if they ever called him by his name in the show. Definitely always heard him called Sam Hain in the fandom, though. I have a feeling he's not supposed to be called Sowen.

That box looks great, it would make a nice backdrop to the collection in the display. But yes, it is huge. Likely I'm only getting one two-pack and will keep the box, but if I dip for anymore, those are going in the trash.

Overall it looks like they 100% delivered the product they solicited. Which isn't disappointing, but feels a little disappointing as someone who wishes they had a couple more extras and some better articulation for the price. But still, I'm looking forward to these guys. I think I'm going to hold off until the Halloween season begins and open Egon and Peter at once.

those cardboard pop out ghosts are pretty damn cool, too

I finally got a chance to watch that review and I think they are adequate in that they turned out to look like the prototypes. I think maybe I was hoping for them to exceed the prototypes in some way due to the large amount of budget they had to work with here but I guess that's on me and my expectations. I still look forward to getting them.

I think they look beautiful, which is what I wanted and expected. I wonder, if it is indeed true that Hasbro's license only extends through next year, if it's possible the price on these could go down if Mondo's line continues continues past that date. Since everyone assumes it was Hasbro that set the price point to begin with. Doesn't feel like we live in that reality, and at the current price, it might well be a done-in-four(-or-five) line, but what is a nerd made of if not foolish hopes?

They pronounce it as "Sam-Hane" in the show, so he's correct in the video. Even the goth-punk band Samhain just went by the same pronunciation because they got tired of correcting people.

That is weak. As a Sean, I have to correct people almost every day, and I won't give up!
