If anyone knows how the toy production process has changed to make it more expensive like Vala was referring to please do share.

I haven't gotten to the end of the thread to see if anyone else might have offered any ideas, but from my watching reviews of LEGO & other brick building products by JANGBricks, the pad printing on pieces is more expensive than the UV printing technique. I don't know if that follows with figures, but that could be one reason.
