General Marvel Legends

On the bright side, having seen that suited body the Mandarin is on, now there's a new Excalibur member to keep that team incomplete. Pete Wisdom incoming.
Pete Wisdom has been in my top ten since I started buying Legends. My crappy "Jamie Madrox Head on Suit Body" stand-in is not good enough.

The art on the back is of a different armor, and one I would love to have a new figure of.

I'm happy to get another Tony head, but wish it was regular without the hood thing. Nice to get a comic Mandarin, but I'm sure this will be disappointing to a very vocal group that it isn't classic.

This is the second time they've fucked up the comic art on an Extremis figure's packaging. Ridiculous.

Also this 2-pack is technically from the Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D run that took place post Civil War/Pre Secret Invasion

The Iron Man, sure.. why not.. Let's call if a DoS figure.

The Mandarin? It's a clear Fraction run Mandarin with a bad DoS head packed in. The Mandarin didn't actually have hands during DoS so it can't be that.

Technically that’s the pentagon armor which we already got last year but it’s the 2.0 version of the armor. (Misidentified as the model 20) It lacks the fins on the back and the gold plates in the obliques are now a uniform red

We didn't get the Pentagon armor last year.

I'm seriously confused by the clawed ringless hands being included. Feels overtly racist.

The main head on Mandarin is borderline white washing the character, but they had to put the yellow peril-ness back into the package so we get massive clawed hands with long finger nails included. Wild choices.

There is a universe where I might've bought a suited Mandarin so I could put the head and hands on a costume body of some sort, but woops! They put him in a 2-pack so it's not even a casual buy.

This is one of those sets that I hope wildly under-performs and somebody learns a lesson from.

Definitely not my top choice for Mandarin. But I’d love to get this powered up Ezekiel Stane and here’s an excuse to repaint Detroit Steel into Sasha Hammer’s armor (large red and black suit in the back:

Actually Ezekiel Stane would have been perfect for this set since he battled Extremis Iron Man. Extremis is a lot of reuse with a new lower torso and unmasked head to balance out a brand new sculpt for Ezekiel.

I'm really going to do some soul-searching next week with my Legends collection and my collecting path forward. I'm off work and will be at home for the week and need to do some serious rearranging. I'm running out of room for GI Joe Classified and I like pretty much 99% of their releases. Marvel I begrudgingly buy modern stuff that I just really don't have an attachment to. All of that is on the right side of the room next to Classified and I rarely even look at those Marvel shelves. The left side where the classic stuff is is where I spend most of my time.

I think it's time to hyper focus on the classic and just start ignoring the rest. Then I can display Classified like I really want to.

That's probably the only figure from the Fraction run I actually would want.

I seem to be doing a lot of that this year. The line has been going in a lot of directions that I’m simply not interested in, not only in terms of character choice, but in terms of how the figures are being packaged and sold.
I hear this and my thinking is maybe with Ryan's unexpected departure from the creative line-up, the direction of the line might shift in a way I will enjoy more? It could also go the other way but it is likely to change starting, what, around March/April next year? Everything until then is likely locked in with factory orders. Summer at the latest since Doomsday's move probably created a whole new schedule.

But I am also tired of Hasbro INTENTIONALLY not giving us what most collectors want. They *know* this isn't the version of the character most of their fanbase wants and they decided to fleece us anyway. Namorita doesn't need two versions on my shelf - do her right and then MAKE SOMEONE ELSE I don't have - make Marrina! Two slots, I'm still paying Hasbro twice AND they didn't need to screw me first.

Hasbro was very smart and clever to not reveal this 2-pack at SDCC. They knew there would be a lot of questions as to their choice of Mandarin, probably the most asked question by general fans and influencers with recording devices.

They will probably do the Mandarin Acts of Vengeance armor next, you know, because that story arc ended in 1990 - their favorite decade.

See, I just want a classic Mandarin for my 60's Silver and Bronze Age villains shelf.

I have a shelf that has classic versions of Red Skull, Loki, Dormammu, Dr Doom, Magneto, Leader, Green Goblin, Bullseye, Ultron, Kang, Modok, Baron Zemo, Kang and a few others. Most of them were created by Stan Lee and/or Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko (Yes, I know the Doom figures we've gotten to this point are not true Jack Kirby/John Byrne versions. Hasbro knows as soon as they make one we'll buy it and most of us will never need another. The longer they put off making a Kirby Doom, the longer they can keep stringing us along. Diabolically clever).

That shelf full of Silver Age villains is screaming for a Mandarin.

He was Iron Man's top foe when I first started reading comics. Mandarin was to Iron Man what Green Goblin was to Spider-Man and Magneto was to the X-Men. The Arch Enemy. The Chief Nemisis. The Big Bad. You get the idea.

I'm looking at that shelf and all my heroes have somebody. Hulk has the Leader. Cap has the Red Skull. Thor has Loki. Dr Strange has Dormammu. The FF has Doom. The X-Men have Magneto. The Avengers have Kang. Spider-Man has the Goblin. SHIELD has Baron Strucker. The Black Panter has Klaw.

Poor Iron Man. He has no one.

You need to fix that, Dan and Dwight.

Ideally ... this is the version of Mandarin I would want:

But I'll take any per-1980 version of Mandarin I can get.

Please and thank you.
