General Marvel Legends

Hallow’s Eve definitely feels like a character someone created while saying “this will make a cool Marvel Legends figure without too much new sculpting”.
Well I am 99% certain that the design team actively seeks out those types of characters to make into figures. So they scratch each other's backs in that regard.

Spidey definitely cries out to have more female villains. His character really calls for it but he’s only really got the one great female villain and she’s pretty much a rip of Batman’s best female villain. I mean we all know the reason why; 90% of his good supporting cast were created in the 60s and early 70s. There’s also the lens that good Spidey villains generally have to be either animal or Halloween themed.

This is an exact translation to 1:12 scale (according to my own math). Seeing the figures in it, honestly I feel like it needs to be bigger than 1:12 to work.

What if the Quinjet were made to seat 3.75" figs instead of 6" - and came with a roster as pack-ins? Just to help get it down in size. Same with the Blackbird.

I wouldn't buy either as I really don't want or need those vehicles, but subbing in a different scale to solve a scale issue could work? Or is this blasphemy?

Chasm and Hallows Eve are perfect examples of newer characters that are destined to be long forgotten in 10 years. I just didn't think of them because Ben is one of my favorite characters and is significant to me (because of the original Clone Saga... not... now) and I am always just so amazed when we get new Ben figures or even a Janine. If you'd have told me we were getting figures of them 20 years ago...

But yes, in a few years those 2 will definitely be a "interesting choice, Hasbro" in any retrospective.

I figure the most recent 3.75" retro line was likely the best chance of getting a decent HasLab-type Quinjet offering. But I don't know that there would be the demand for that at that scale. Legends collectors aren't as accepting as Joe collectors are of that scale, as the failure of both lines offering that scale in the past has shown.

I know that this will be an unpopular take, but the Chasm character is my favorite thing that they've ever done with Ben Reilly. To me, it made him quite a bit more unique and interesting as a character to set him apart. It made him a little less repetitive or redundant. I hope they do a lot more with that persona of the character going forward. To take a character that you've rooted for in the past and make him an interesting villain always raises the stakes. It is often the villains that make or break a story. Too often they take a previously really well written villain and turn him to the side of the angels. I find it far more interesting in the reverse. I love a good heel turn, but you can't do it with just anyone. I thought that Ben was a good choice and reasonably well executed. I love Hallow's Eve also.

Yeah, a Marvel HasLab dependent on 3'75" or 1:18 scale figures is likely dead in the water and I say that as someone who doesn't have any real aversions to smaller scales. There's just a real shortage of iconic vehicles in the Marvel Universe that collectors are willing to spend big bucks on. I love X-Men and I had the Toy Biz Blackbird back in the day, but am I even remotely interested in a $300 Blackbird that can seat a modest 4 figures in the cockpit? No, not at all. I bought the McFarlane reissue of the DC Direct BTAS Batmobile because it was on steep clearance at Target and even with getting that thing for cheap I'm still kind of wondering why I did it? It's so big and it just sits on top of a toy box I have that's somewhat close to my modest Batman collection.

I don't think there was any real mystery as to why the Engine of Vengeance failed. It was a project that came with a healthy amount of sticker shock from the community plus it was centered around an obscure version of Ghost Rider. Once more desirable characters familiar to the collector base were added as stretch goals with a "This is the only way we can do these," caveat it created a more hostile setting. A tactic designed to incentivize the fence-sitters just made the majority of them angry. At least they were right to call Hasbro's bluff since we're on the eve of a Mephisto release.

Wouldn't do much h for me. I like the 1/12 scale and don't really want to shift away from it.

Honestly, vehicles chew up SO much space they are mostly a non starter for me no matterbhow iconic they are.

I have skipped most of the G.I. Joe Haslabs for that reason. The sentinel and Galactus chewe up vertical space that was easier to work around. As I said before the only reason I backed the engine of vengeance was because I decided I could mount it climbing a wall or the outside of a bookshelf.

A Quinjet or Blackbird would be neat... and I'd think about it if I could rig a good system to hang it from the ceiling so it didn't eat valuable shelf space.

I would consider a Fantasticar if it was modular - and if I could mount 3/4 of it to the wall so it looked like it was flying and didn't use up display real estate.

I basically have a short list of the 'big' items from any given IP that I'd be willing to buy. And it's kind of a ranked list, so even if something is on the list, it won't get purchased if other large items on the list come out first.

Like, I've got the MTO Sentinel and I've got the MTO Apocalypse coming. I'm now capped out for large ML figures. For vehicles, I've basically allowed myself enough room for two more 'bike'-size things. Because there's no way I won't get Vengeance or '90s John Blaze. But besides that... no more large items or vehicles in ML for me.

G.I. Joe is a bit different because it's such a vehicle-centric brand. BUT, I've got the SnowCat and Arctic HISS both coming. And I'm getting the Despoiler because I need IG Destro. After that, I've basically set aside enough room/money for 4 or 5 more smaller-to-mid-size items and one plane (the Conquest, if they ever do it). After that, I've gotta call it on vehicles no matter what they make.

For Black Series, I've always said I do my utmost best to work out the space and finances for a Black Series X-Wing. Besides that, I want to re-buy the Dewback if they ever release it with the newer Sandtrooper body, and I'd like to eventually get a Tauntaun if they ever release a Luke that doesn't have embarrassing articulation (no fucking WRIST joints, Hasbro? Seriously?). After those, I'm probably out on any large Black Series items as well.

Maybe a speeder bike and/or a swoop, if they (re)release either of those.

And even then - if Hasbro does ALL of that stuff over the next few years, I'm fucked and it'll be a nightmare no matter how responsible I'm trying to be with limitations.

The space issue is such a real problem for many that it would behoove these companies to just include wall mounts with some of the larger vehicles. It would be cheap to produce and provide a secure, alternate, way for display. Sure, I could hang a Blackbird from the ceiling, but do I really want to trust some irreplaceable item I just paid hundreds of dollars for to some fishing line and ceiling hooks?

I think your last line might actually speak to why they *don't* include wall mounts, because they would still rely on the person to use them correctly. Can you imagine the outrage when someone's Rattler comes crashing down because they didn't know how to use drywall anchors??

This was a huge issue with DST Star Trek Ships... they had display mounts that failed so often they sent free replacements... which also promptly failed... if you had you ship on a shelf top and it failed the entire ship took a dive :-(

This is why I begrudgingly passed on every HasLab. Ultimately, where would I put it? My displays are fairly concrete at this stage of my collection, so I'm not rearranging the whole damn thing to accommodate a big-ass Sentinel.

As far as vehicles, I've learned that 1/18, 1/24, and 1/32 scales are your friend. I can't imagine having a collection without a Batmobile or Normandy SR-2, so I don't. They're tiny little guys on top of my display cabinets. Everybody (me) wins.

I briefly entertained buying those tiny (Micro Galaxy?) Star Wars ships so I could have them flying around in the 'background' of my SWB display. But I never actually did it.
