General Marvel Legends

Y'know, I didn't notice the height difference in-hand with the Astonishing figure - this might be fine. I gotta laugh at Logan REALLY hitting his quads though, those gams are poppin' on the new figure.

I really don't mind the bulk, and it captures the physique of the game well - I just don't want Wolverine to be the same height as Cyclops and Gambit when stood beside them. That's some 90's era Toy Biz shit. I don't love that Hasbro has been slightly scaling him up with Astonishing and now this. The X-Men 97 body is still a great standard, if a bit bland with the leg details. If they ever did a Maximum I'd hope it's a brand new sculpt, borrowing heavily from the 12 inch scale figure from a few years ago, scaling perfectly against the '97 releases.

I'll say it again; it's a GREAT Wolverine for what it's supposed to be. Looks fantastic. I just don't want that to be the body they use going forward for comic Wolverines. That's it. If they leave this as a one-off video game Wolverine... whatever. I mean, I won't own it because I don't have a dedicated Marvel video game collection or anything, but it's cool that it exists. Just please, do not infect the comic shelves by going backwards like this.

That being said, I also loudly complained about (and did not buy) Astonishing Wolverine being too tall (even though everyone told me he'd be the same height as the existing body - which he isn't). I don't think it's too much to ask for Hasbro to just keep Wolverine at the current-body height where he belongs. Why keep making him taller? Are they jealous of how many different heights ToyBiz tried, so they gotta do it too?

I think the best outcome would be for Hasbro to take what works with this figure and apply it to the next comic sculpt. Between the different colorways in the game there's plenty of reuse potential just staying in that universe. And there was also a bone claws sprite too and other effects they could explore. And they've shown a willingness for more one-off sculpts with Wolverine in the past probably because he's a strong seller, but I guess we'll see.

Interesting interview with Jesse Falcon at SDCC. Specifically interesting is that the interviewer says to him that adults are the main audience for Marvel Legends, but Jesse corrects him and says that the majority of Legends are actually sold to kids under the age of 12. I would never have guessed that.

I don’t how they could prove it out either. It’s a metric that’s prevalent in almost all things so there must be a science to it, but I literally don’t know a single child into this stuff and I have a 10 year old son. He and his peers should be in the prime of the demographic Jesse cites, but maybe there’s something in the water in Massachusetts that makes kids not care about action figures.

I wonder if it's in the same vein as how many many years ago, any story that had any sort of fantasy element was marketed as a "children's story" (i.e The Hobbit, Narnia), because the general consensus was adults didn't play into silly things like that so obviously it's for children, even though the adults are the main consumers (not just the buyers), of said product.

My kids are into them, but they don't buy many since they know I buy most of them. There have been a few I've skipped that both my son and daughter asked for, but I have trouble counting them has any kind of representative example since I'm the one who introduced the line to them.

But my general experience when I go into Target and Walmart is just like yours. I've never seen a kid buying Legends, but I've seen plenty of adults buying them.

Buying demographics should be universal to all products and not at all particular to just toys. However companies do it I'm sure they all do it the same way.
