General Disney thread

I still have a set from Mattel, of old school Mickey and Minnie, based on very early appearances. They have swappable parts so they can be romantic with each other. Mattel was coming out with some pieces that were more collector oriented at a reasonable price. That line kind of evaporated.

Man, seeing those Kingdom Hearts figures makes me wish I'd have picked them up (I assume those are the Bring Arts versions?). I always wanted more of them- only got Halloween Town Sora and POTC Sora- but they were definitely the best representations we got. The Play Arts Kai always felt too big, and the DST were always lacking in sculpt and especially articulation. Bring Arts always drew my eye, but my wallet could never match my gaze, and now they're all even more pricey.
Mickey is Bring Arts, but Donald and Goofy are Figuarts. Then Pete is Diamond Select and came with Chip and Dale.

I need a Donald Duck. I want an articulated one that wont cost me $80+. Bonus points if he comes with a sombrero. Best Donald variant.
Same. Hell, I'd take a line of Donalds dedicated to his variants. I have the DuckTales one, Beast Kingdom, and Herocross. The Herocross one is the best, but still not perfect. It's just a little off-model, plus the scale is weird. The Beast Kingdom one looks decent, but it feels so cheap and the soft goods aren't great. And, of course, the price wasn't cheap (though it might be now).

Hey, look what I got! Ordered from Ali Express 3 weeks ago and arrived via strange white van yesterday.

I've never done a model like those before and enjoyed the process of doing it, but man, am I glad my toys come pre assembled. Also real glad that I went ahead and got a proper sprue cutter. Made the job MUCH easier.

This guys great. Perfect scale for me, tons of good articulation, feels moderately sturdy for a model, and can even stand pretty well despite his size and proportions. It's probably nothing new for folks who regularly do models, but wow, the engineering that goes into something like this is nuts. Took about 6-7 hours of assembly without any real hiccups, but really happy with him.

Nice. Mine just arrived yesterday as well. No time to work on him for a few days, but hearing there were no real issues is reassuring.

That sounds like a stressful time, but in the end you can hug your Baymax and alleviate your problems.

I would not have guessed that clean looking sculpt came from all of that mess! Nice job. :)

A good Disney line sure would be nice. For the most evergreen of properties, it's very odd to have so little. It's one of the reasons I really liked the Infinity/Toy Box designs - a uniform design that was also pretty close to keeping everyone close to their source look. They didn't move, but they looked great and I'm sad Disney killed both.

It wasn't really hard or stressful, just very detail oriented. I think I counted 317 pieces, so it was just a lot of clipping and then inspecting to make sure I've gotten the sprues as smooth as possible. Then many of the pieces have specific ways to be assembled, like Piece A will have a tiny little peg that you may not notice that has to line up with the tiny little slot of Piece B, which the directions will almost always directly point out for you.

I think I've only ever put together one model kit in my time, which was General Grievous. I had fun with it. Definitely gotta take it slow, but the instructions were pretty clear to where even a newbie like me had an easy enough time. Had a harder time with some Transformers than I did with him. Don't know if it was just his design, but the figure itself was pretty fragile (I imagine a thicker guy like Baymax wouldn't be as bad). I'd do it again, but I do definitely prefer my figures to come pre-assembled, especially for the price of some model kits. 😅
