G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

I legit wasn't sure. I was sitting there thinking of Leatherneck has appeared in some media - comic or cartoon - where he was like best buds with another Joe. But I don't even remember if he's been IN any of the media....
He and Wetsuit had a friendly rivalry on the cartoon. I always thought they were brothers as a kid but others took it in a romantic direction.

Y'know, if I'd known that I might've put more thought into their connection. Though to be fair I've known Leatherneck was crashing with Gung-Ho since I wrote Gung-Ho's card, I just wasn't sure how to get there story-wise.

Code Name: Quick Kick (Disavowed)
File Name: Ito, MacArthur S.
Primary Military Specialty: Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: Intelligence
Birthplace: Los Angeles, California
Rank: E-4

Subject accepted early retirement from the GI Joe Unit, but given his lack of a real military background, did not qualify for many of the same benefits his colleagues did (Ito was initially recruited as an independent operative during a GI Joe operation and remained part of the team, granted the E-4 rank for pay equivalent despite never having enlisted). He rapidly returned to his former career in Hollywood, though, much to President Lewis's irritation. Ito upgraded his status from stuntman to leading man, appearing in such blockbuster action films as 'Flying Thunder,' 'Two-Fisted,' and his first attempt as a romantic lead in the risqué 'Curse of the Serpent Woman' (which received tepid reviews). Lewis has concerns about a former Joe garnering status among the Hollywood elite and thus maintains steady surveillance on Ito.

"We always wondered if Quick Kick missed making movies, but what he was doing before he joined up with us wasn't so much acting as throwing his body into harm's way so that bigger stars didn't have to. I guess he's kinda doing that now, but on a metaphorical level. He's building a reputation, he's going to galas, he's talking up movie producers, politically active film stars, making sure they know that the Joes never betrayed America. He's building sympathy for our cause among those people who have a very different kind of influence in America, and he's so damned charming it's starting to work. He's absolutely in danger if Lewis finds out, but if anyone can self-evacuate from a bad situation, it's Quick Kick. I don't know if he'll want to run, though. Last I heard, he was dating the lead of that weird Jane Austen retelling last year..."

One more for the night:

Code Name: Ripcord (Disavowed)
File Name: Weems, Wallace A.
Primary Military Specialty: Airborne Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: Demolitions
Birthplace: Columbus, Ohio
Rank: E-4

After the GI Joe Unit was dissolved, subject looked into volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol but as it is part of the U.S. Air Force, his application was denied. Spent several months working in search and rescue in the Midwest but more recently, in an alarming development, took on a role working as head of security for Franklin Talltree's campaign for U.S. Senator. Weems went on to hire several other Joes to join him in this endeavor. This is doubly concerning as the administration has made every attempt to prevent Joes from congregating or seeking out public office, while also making it more difficult to derail Talltree's campaign through the threat of violence. Lewis would like to identify some method for breaking this cadre up but at the moment, Weems remains simply a nuisance.

"Ripcord's easy to overlook. He's got the face of a banker. No real quirks, nothing that makes him memorable or troubling. Except of course if you know what he did behind enemy lines. The whole thing with Ripcord was simply: don't ask. Because you jump out of an airplane in the pitch black night with the intent to cause harm, that's a man who doesn't get scared. So they stopped letting Ripcord jump out of those airplanes, and what does he do? Calls up his old military buddy who's running for office, putting a target on his back, and says 'who's watching your six?' And when I said I don't know, he says he's on his way. 'I'll jump out of a plane to get there if I have to,' he says, so I laughed and said I've never known a man who needed less encouragement to jump out of an aircraft..."

Okay, both are characters I was never particularly big on, probably because neither was all that featured in the comics, though I definitely remember stories with both. Quick Kick was even the one who turned the SAW Viper's weapon on him, wasn't he?

Anyway... but both are really great. Quick Kick's just made me happy, you know? And seems perfect for his personality. He's now the Joe's PR guy, and that feels perfect. Is Amber acting?

And Ripcord's... well, centering it around Airborne like that was genius. I loved it way more than I expected to when I saw the codename, heh.

I never really liked Quick Kick because I knew Larry hated writing for him, but I really wanted to make him fun and likeable here. Ripcord is SO hard to get a read on, and honestly, I mix up Airborne and Ripcord's code names all the time, so I thought why not tie them together in a logical way? Also Ripcord's file card while it doesn't say much does seem to indicate he's SCARY dangerous.

Now I need to figure out how to make a custom Candy Appel. Anyway, had to go Bongo/Candy because I forgot to mention her in Ripcord's card yesterday and felt bad:

Code Name: Bongo the Balloon Bear
File Name: Appel, Candy
Primary Military Specialty: Entertainer
Secondary Military Specialty: N/A
Birthplace: Staten Island, New York
Rank: N/A

Officially, Ms. Appel is of little to no consequence to this administration. An aspiring actress of no acclaim, she makes her living as a costumed bear delivering balloons to children's birthday parties. Unofficially, agents keep Ms. Appel under surveillance at the request of her father, one Professor Appel, a geo-scientist working with the Lewis administration's Department of the Interior. Additionally, Ms. Appel has been seen in the company of former GI Joe team member Wallace "Ripcord" Weems. The connection appears to be purely coincidental, but as with all things concerning Joe veterans, it is best to err on the side of caution.

"I have never seen a man's face change faster than the day we ran into Candy dressed in that stupid bear costume. Ripcord was apoplectic, just losing his mind at the ridiculousness of the situation, asking some lunatic in a bear costume for a ride... and then she takes the bear mask off and I swear I heard 'Dream Weaver' start playing. Anyway. I know Ripcord is keeping Candy at a distance right now with everything going on - we all believe her that she had no idea that her dad was a Crimson Guardsman. Candy's so bad an actress she can't even lie well. But that connection is too close for comfort, and even if talking to her wouldn't put us in danger, her just being around us puts HER in danger. It'd be a damned shame if something bad happens to her. I heard Ripcord has a ring."
