G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

Part of me thinks I should. part of me is like if I write 200 of these cards I'm a crazy person.
...but you're OUR crazy person! I say you churn them out as long as you're inspired and enjoying it! WE obviously are! I mean, you managed to make Serpentor interesting to me....that is an accomplishment that makes me believe miracles are possible!

125 actually feels horrifyingly close since I usually do three at a time. that's only like two weeks from now.

No joke these cards are my therapy right now, they're a break from reality that give me ZERO stress, so as long as you guys are looking forward them I'll keep going. I just don't want to be an annoyance throwing out card after card.

Maybe work out a deal so you get royalties for product placement. Everytime a Cobra agent knocks over a truck of refreshing Coca Cola, you get some scratch.

Just realized the last ten were VERY Cobra heavy, so...

Code Name: Leatherneck (Disavowed)
File Name: Metzger, Wendell A.
Primary Military Specialty: Infantry
Secondary Military Specialty: Drill Sergeant
Birthplace: Stromburg, Nebraska
Rank: E-7

Subject attempted to refuse early retirement with the dissolution of the GI Joe Unit. Requesting a transfer back to a role with the Marine Corps, Metzger was investigated as a potential recruit by agents of President Lewis but their determination was simply that the subject tied too much of his identity to his life as a Marine and that he otherwise showed no inclination toward betraying his former teammates. In a way, it was somewhat pathetic - the man had no identity outside of his job. He returned home to Nebraska briefly, but within months his wife filed for divorce and Metzger left the family home. He is currently staying with fellow former Joe Ettienne LaFitte, working nights in a night club in New Orleans. In a way, Leatherneck represents the truest end result Lewis could hope for: to see every GI Joe veteran fallen from grace, abandoned by their loved ones, wasting away.

"Poor Leatherneck, man - there's a lot of guys who have built their entire world around being a soldier, but Leatherneck? All he knew how to be was a Marine. And later of course, a Marine in the Joes. In a lot of ways he never quite fit in with us, y'know? We're the rejects. We're the ones who don't fit in with military protocols, the ones who can't get our uniforms right, the ones who have trouble with orders. Not Leatherneck. Dude has a spine of iron. He made us better by being there. Which is why Gung-Ho drove up to Nebraska to pick him up and bring him back to New Orleans when his wife left him. 'We all go home or nobody goes home' isn't just about combat. It's about life. Turns out if he can't be a Marine, what Leatherneck needs is a mission. And his mission is keeping folks safe at Gung-Ho's bar. He sets the watch, he establishes the perimeter, and nobody messes with their crew. He's even got himself a sweetheart down there. Maybe that iron spine can bend a bit after all."

Damn... thank you because that was getting a little dark, but still beautiful in the end. Way to turn it around!
Y'know, I didn't do it on purpose but I kept looking at Leatherneck thinking "this is a guy who is angry and doesn't have to be" and I ended up here. I feel like he's a good candidate for "let people grow and change, man." Rock 'n Roll and Footloose are pulling for him.

Yeah, Leatherneck is one of the write-ups I'm willing to call 'beautiful' unironically.
Also, it says he's unwilling to betray his teammate. Did you mean teammateS, or is that a reference to someone specific?

Ah, meant to be plural. Thanks.

It's funny, I have almost NO attachment to Leatherneck but this one was kind of inspired by the figure - he's got such a hangdog look and the fact that he comes with a bracelet that's meant to be in memory of a lost friend says he's probably sentimental but doesn't want to admit it and that there might be a story there.

I legit wasn't sure. I was sitting there thinking of Leatherneck has appeared in some media - comic or cartoon - where he was like best buds with another Joe. But I don't even remember if he's been IN any of the media....
