G.I. Joe Head Canon & Fanfic Filecards

Alright. That was definitely worth the wait. There is just so much poetic fuck yeah in that. I kept wondering when you would have him do a commentary, but yeah this was the one. What made you go with St. Louis?

For some reason, it's canon!

Okay so... I guess we're just not going to mention in the filecard that he wears his Ninja Force costume exclusively now and that is objectively his favorite thing to wear and also his best thing ever and also Hasbro needs to make a proper action figure of that costume? Wow. Okay. Takes this one down a few notches, if I'm being honest.

Excellent, though. Can't think of a better one to be the HUNDREDTH! filecard. Poetic but ... severe, somehow. Really great.

Well shit. Show how much attention i paid to that NF card. I'd always read Fresno or San Francisco, but since this is an official file card, i cannot argue that! Why the hell would anyone say California?

I really was confused by St. Louis too. I wondered if Hama was from there originally but he's from NYC (like Tunnel Rat).

#101 also felt like it needed to be important:

Code Name: Serpentor
File Name: Unknown
Primary Military Specialty: Command
Secondary Military Specialty: Propaganda
Birthplace: N/A
Rank: N/A

The Lewis administration considers the man who calls himself "Serpentor" a dangerous fraud, an egomaniacal cult leader intent on turning Americans on each other. This man is clearly delusional and may, in fact, be a literal psy-op by Lewis's enemies to discredit him and turn the country against his leadership. At least this is the public perception. In truth, Lewis and his inner circle know exactly who Serpentor is. They built him, after all. Originally intended to be a prototype for a genetically engineered super soldier, only one test subject lived, and, unfortunately, thrived. As a science experiment, Serpentor is an achievement for the ages - a living, breathing, perfect specimen of warcraft. But whether through accident, sabotage, or intent, something went wrong. Rather than creating a simple, easy to control soldier, Mindbender and his scientists created a man who is a master tactician, a brutal warrior, and, unfortunately, fully convinced he was born to rule the world.

"Nobody knows, or at least will admit, where the experiment went wrong. Lewis is convinced someone - Destro, maybe, or Mindbender - intentionally tampered with the experiment to create a weapon to take him down. Given no one is happy with the end result, it may simply be a case of, as the saying goes, nature finding a way. The only thing holding Serpentor back from being a true global threat is that despite his prowess, he does sound absolutely insane, so the folks who follow him are usually more than a little unhinged themselves. True believers, religious zealots, supremacists of various stripes. The thing that worries me though is that he has stopped focusing his efforts on tearing down Lewis and his supporters and has instead turned his attention on a remote location in the Himalayas. We have someone on the inside, listening to Serpentor's speeches and rantings, and the man, whatever he is... he says there's something in those mountains calling to him. Telling him great power awaits him up there under the stone and ice. And given some of the reports we've been getting... he might be telling the truth."

Really dig it and it makes me sad we don't have a really good Serpentor for me to go buy. I cannot and will not explain this, but somehow 'eldritch forces in the Himalayas' makes 'genetically engineered war-master' not just easier to accept, but almost a requirement of the story? I dunno. I'm here for it.

Just head-canon for now, but I kind of like the idea that whatever went wrong with Serpentor was intentional, but wasn't a 'usual suspect.' Like.. did Fred do it? Billy? Scarface?! Maybe it was Zartan, JUST for the fucking lulz.

I actually thought it might be fun to quietly tie two somewhat divisive bits of Joe lore together to try to make them more appealing, since there's a lot of (reasonable) Serpentor and Cobra La hate out there. I never liked the "we genetically engineered someone to be our boss" part of Serpentor but I don't hate the "we tried to build a god?" side of him.

Thinking long-term, I think CC would blame the usual suspects, but we do have Pythona running around out there....

This is fantastic and I appreciate the distinction between public perception and reality. I really like the idea of him being seed as a cult leader though.

Just what we needed, another one!

I love that, "no one is happy with the end result". It almost makes me feel bad for Serpy.

Yes! I have always thought this. In the comic as well!
so the folks who follow him are usually more than a little unhinged themselves. True believers, religious zealots, supremacists of various stripes.
Brilliant.

Oooooo man that's a good ending.

So who is actually following him? Does he have his own Cobra offshoot? "The REAL Cobra"? Provisional Cobra?

Same.

Completely agree. I just Doc I don't even like Serpentor but was really interested in the Disavowed take on him, and this really delivered. It tied so many things I wasn't too into before this project together and made them really awesome.

In the comics, correct me if I'm wrong, was he meant to be a super soldier? Then decided on his own that, no, he is meant to lead etc? I never understood on the cartoon that Cobra basically, what, voted Cobra Commander out? I remember him and Scrap Iron sabotaging the experiment. And Sgt Slaughter turned screws with his fingernail.
Thinking long-term, I think CC would blame the usual suspects, but we do have Pythona running around out there....
Mhmm, true that. And soon we'll have the Royal Guard and Golobulus.

Y'know, there's so much conflicting lore about him... In some scenarios he's a replacement, in some a super soldier, sometimes it's Mindbender's idea, sometimes it's not. I kinda just synthesized it all and vibed it out. :)

It's funny how doing this project had made me WANT to write for characters I don't particularly like. Hell, I just figured out where Nunchuck is right now.

It definitely worked!

That is awesome - wait, what is wrong with Nunchuk?!
