G.I. Joe Classified Series

I just realized I never got around to selling my old Vipers before the new Viper came out. Now I bet they're going to be worthless. Goddamn it.
I don't keep tabs on this kind of stuff but I think those took a dip on the aftermarket when they rereleased those Cobra Island figures.

I remember having an extra Cobra Island Viper back when those figures were scalpers' delight. I decided to sell one and got top dollar for him. A week later the announced they would be rereleased in greater quantities.

Anyway, to me the aesthetic differences are so minimal, I honestly don't really care about the vintage card release. I know that puts me in a minority.

While I do have some retro Vipers on order, I can't say that they're a definite improvement designwise to the CI. There's always been something "off" about the original Viper design having short-sleeves, since I prefer long sleeves for troop builders. Just makes them more useful in all kinds of environments. I won't mind mixing in some retro ones amongst my other Vipers, as a bit of visual variety is nice.

I just unloaded all mine this weekend. Never underestimate the army builders.
Selling stuff in this area is always fucking miserable, really. It's always like 'I can sell it on eBay for double, but lose all the extra money in fees and bullshit and MAYBE have eBay screw me over and give the person their money back when they take a picture of an empty box or something... OR... I can let some douchebag come to my house and pick up toys for a fraction of what they're currently selling for and still spend 10 minutes looking over the figure with a jeweler's magnifying glass and ask me if I still have the packaging somewhere even though I obviously fucking don't."
Goddamn I hate selling toys.
Also, CanadaPost is on strike AGAIN, so it's going to be utter bullshit trying to sell anything to anyone that doesn't live 10 minutes away from me.

I'd say they're pretty different when viewed side-by-side. Or at least the differences that exist are very noticeable. But obviously it depends on what even matters to you, aesthetically. For me, it's the extra hands and different colors that are selling it for me the most. And the possibility that the new Viper doesn't have the fucked up hips that spring back whenever you try to pose them.

Noooooo kidding. I am doing it constantly, and have been for years now, just a steady stream of clearing some things off the shelf or extra accessories I'll never want, BAF parts, etc, and making room for new figures... some of which will be on ebay in the next twelve months.

And I guess I've just kinda gotten used to rectal bleeding.

I do agree, even aside from the forearm thingies and glove color, also the sleeves and sleeve pouch etc. but I appreciate differences and like having individuals even when army building.

Of course, yeah. Agreed.

The paint job on the head and face of the retro Rock n Roll is so trash... so much extra black paint outlining the eyes and so much extra dark wash on the hair and beard. It doesn’t help that the head sits lower on the neck than the original too. I'm happy to have the retro outfit, but I think I'll be swapping out those heads. I bought two and one of them is going to get that Joe Colton head from the FreshMonkeyFiction the General figure - assuming that figure still actually ships.

For me I'm just seeing the same beats configured slightly differently. A blue jump suit, a black vest with red accents throughout. It's just that one configuration is EXACTLY from my childhood and the other is pretty darn close. I'm personally trying to take off my nostalgia blinders with this hobby (not just GI Joe) because it's costing me a lot of money, which the toy companies are well aware of. And still, now that I'm giving this figure more thought than I ever have before, maybe I DO want it......... ugh.

I read something recently about men trimming their eyelashes to appear more masculine. Smh, not going to offer any political or social commentary.

The Joe team never really cleared up what was behind the huge difference between the two Outbacks, right? I'm sure we'll never know what the deal is with R&R, but I'd love to find out if it was a factory situation or an intended design choice. I don't hate the change, but prefer the first version. A pair of shades from the accessory box might be kind of cool, whether to hide the eyes or not.

...I don't have a problem with eyeliner or mascara. JD can do whatever he wants with his eyes and I'd be much more comfortable hanging out with the goth kids at Walmart over the Connecticut rednecks that seem to appear after 6pm. Just sayin'.

I'm going the other direction in my age -- my nostalgia blinders are getting way worse and I'm very likely to replace a figure with one that's even just slightly more like what I had as a kid. At this point, as cool as the updates and new designs are, it's nostalgia that's driving my collecting. That's the reason I still haven't broken down and gotten Raptor yet. Looks like a great figure, but it's too far removed from MY Raptor.

I sell on Mercari. Even though I don't have first hand ebay selling experiance, my wife did. She switch to using Mercari and found everything to be way smoother. I've been selling off my junk wonderful treasures for a few years now and have had very few hiccups and Mercari is usually pretty good at getting issues resolved.

As great as the retro Viper looks, I don't think I'd buy a bunch to replace the "inaccurate" Vipers I have. I only have two displayed, but a bunch just boxed in storage since I have no more room to display. I like how they look. I don't need slavish loyalty to original designs for most. Especially troop builders. Not at this point, not in this uncertain economic climate. I'm ok with retro RnR because I just consider that an alternate costume for him, and plenty of characters have worn more than one costume.
