G.I. Joe Classified Series

It's interesting going through this thread, reading the comments about some toy collectors hating on certain eras and what-not. Such a bizarre thing to get worked up about. I guess I come at all this from a different perspective since I'm in my fifties. The big doll-like GI Joes are the first toys I remember owning. I know I had one that had eyes that moved left & right...that sticks in my head for some reason. Anyway, as time moved on, towards the end of my childhood collecting ARAH debuted, and I remember getting a few of the first waves. My childhood was literally bookended by two very different eras of Joes.

For me, I have a very small collection of Classified, not because I haven't loved a lot of the releases, but because I've tried to mainly stick to characters I have some sort of attachment to, which doesn't extend much beyond the first couple years of the toys and the Marvel comic. All the Ninja Force stuff? Completely foreign to me. The animated movie? No clue. Still, I love coming on this thread and reading the enthusiastic responses to some of these characters, and occasionally I even get persuaded to pick one up. There are a few I've picked up just because they are cool looking toys, and I don't mind having them in my display...even though I have no emotional connection to them whatsoever. So, I guess I just don't get anyone hating on different eras being represented. If you don't like it...skip it! There are SO many danged Joe characters that there is something for everyone. I mean, I had never even heard of Desert Scorpion before, but if I see him in store I'm probably gonna buy...it has a giant mutant scorpion in the package! What's not to love? Hell, I may put the scorpion on a shelf with Godzilla and Kong...or with Conan! How can I hate that, even if it isn't from *my* era(s)? I don't know anything about Crystal Ball, but if I find him in store I'll likely grab him because of those cool magic effect pieces. I guess my overwhelming thought is these are TOYS, and we collect these things to have a sense of fun in our lives. They provide an escape from the hellish reality we currently live in, and I just don't get why some people have to shit on that for others. I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I felt the need to express that to everyone who is of a like mind.

That's exactly why I always do a kinda emotional inventory now and then. Am I still enjoying this or is it a compulsion? But yeah, I really try to just leave it at "that's not for me", and restrict my hate to certain things. There's stuff in the Joe universe I'm not into but I don't think there's anything I outright hate. I don't even really hate Duke, but enjoy playing that up.

And again, that's why this bunch has always been a breath of fresh air because we're all just really excited for the line. Even figures I'm not gonna get, I still get excite to see them and talk about why they're neat. I'm not getting Pythona, but she's absolutely cool looking and outlandish and fun.

Off the top of my head: Cobra Island Viper, Croc Master & Fiona, Cobra Island Roadblock (who I bought to be Heavy Duty in my display), Zarana. There are probably some others, but those are ones I could think of.

I did the same with CI Roadblock, never expecting that they'd get as far as actually releasing an official Heavy Duty.

Love Zarana and Croc Master. They are highlights in the line.

Some Classifiying him up could probably help with his color distribution, since he was a solid color for his torso and then camo his limbs.

I imagine that would look better on a Classified figure because the torso being solid will be a plate carrier, I would guess.

Yeah, I really had my doubts the line would have legs, and the CI Roadblock looked SO different from the first one (and that, in turn, looked dramatically different from the classic version we eventually got), I figured he worked as HD. I wound up with all three Roadblocks to be different characters, with the first one getting a WWE Mr. T head to have BA Baracus join my Joe team. I still haven't picked up the official HD, so CIRB is still on the shelf as well.

Definitely! What's funny is I got both on clearance...and I wasn't aware they were clearance when I decided to buy them. I'd been eyeing Croc & Fiona for a while, and one day said "to hell with it, I'm getting this set". Took it to the counter at Target and it rang up for about half of what it had been! I was pretty happy about it, to say the least.

Similarly, I'd wanted some females on the Cobra side of the display (Baroness was getting fed up being alone at that sausage party), and I vaguely remembered Zarana from...something? Not sure if it was a comic, or a toy my brother had, but thought "cool, I'll get her next time I see her". Well, I didn't see her in stores for months after that, and I figured I'd missed my chance. One day I saw her hanging on a peg at a Walmart and grabbed her...and she rang up for something like $8! Pretty cool to get two great figures like that for discounted prices. Of course, there have also been times when I did something like buy the Coil set really just to get Baroness, so she wound up being a wee bit more expensive. Guess it all works out in the end!
