G.I. Joe Classified Series

What's funny is how much reuse they do get out of these parts on Classified but they mix so much and of course the colors so it really hard to pick some of them apart like the marvel stuff.
Yeah, I don't even mind reuse in most lines. Legends, sure, it's all naked parts, so tights or flesh, do what you gotta do. Classified, at least it's all military aesthetic and utilitarian, so I don't care if the cargo pants and button downs are the same. That's how it works in real life.

What gets me is when Legends "has the parts" to get 80% there, and then leaves you 70% there, and calls it a day.

Now I need stories of Roger, the Cobra intern.
"Dear Diary,
My first week with Cobra has been a truly enlightening experience. Today I learned that Dr. Mindbender has installed groundbreaking surveillance technology in all the bathrooms to prevent "covert data exfiltration" via the plumbing system. Mr. Zartan says it's actually because Dr. Mindbender is a pervert, but that seems a bit harsh.

Today I saw Mr. Firefly leave a bag unattended in the Terror Drome lobby, which my commanding officer says we should always alert internal security about, because Mr. Firefly sometimes 'forgets' he has left live explosives in a dangerous area. I was tasked with retrieving the bag, but I was told it was perfectly safe and no interns have ever been harmed by any of Mr. Firefly's equipment. I am so glad my dad got me this job. It sure beats fetching coffee in an office in midtown!"

Six weeks later:

"Intern's log, 2025/09/03
I hope this is legible. My hands haven't stopped shaking since the last battle. I was ordered to the front lines while piloting a FANG, a vehicle which I have received the bare minimum of training in using, and which is, I will be clear, utterly devoid of any safety regulations. My copter was shot out of the sky, at which point I desperately wished and longed for death. Unfortunately my parachute worked.

While being treated for several burns, a gunshot wound, and a laser shot, I overheard the science team discussing a new experiment involving the deceased Cobra troopers who fell during the battle. Fucking Mindbender has some plan for resurrecting them as cyborg zombies. Dearest family, I am hoping that my corpse will be utterly unusable for such experiments in the future, but I fear this organization will still find some way to profit from this meatbag even after my death..."

My Wal-Mart went and put all their Retro Card GI Joe Classifieds in the Clearance aisle. Beach Head, Cobra Commander, Stalker, etc. They were only marked down to $17

I already had them all, but I did grab an extra Beach Head just because he is a favorite. I do love a good Beach Head.

But I hope my Wal-Mart isn't getting rid of their GI Joe section like one or two other Wal-Marts in my Tri-State area. I also hope the Retro Card line is performing well. That's my favorite part of Classifieds.

Can't wait to see what the Canadian price will be with the new jump. A $3US increase probably means we'll go from $36Cdn for a standard figure to $40Cdn now. So with tax I'll be looking at $45Cdn a figure........... Though I also won't be surprised if it is more.

I think I'll have to really just buckle down on Classified because that is my top line. Everything else will probably get downgraded to only the most desired items which won't be much since I have all but left SW (any scale), TFs and MOTU. So that leaves ML which will probably get cut back even more than it already has. Which probably makes sense since I have a lot of what I really want.

More likely I'll probably be okay with skipping updates to existing figures unless they are vastly superior to the older release. As well, like Ru1977 posted, I'll probably hold off on buying most items outside of exclusives and "extreme" must haves unless on sale. The sad part is "on sale" may end up being what the retail price is right now. Also my limited preordering will probably become almost non-existent.

I can't wait to see what TRU tries to sell 6" figures for after this increase. They already charge $45Cdn, which with tax is almost $51Cdn. I won't be surprised if they go to $50Cdn plus tax. Not a chance I would pay almost $60 for a single "regular" 6" Hasbro figure.
All of this.

Realistically, a LOT of the stuff I've been picking up lately from Classified would have been left on the pegs if they were at the prices we're potentially going to be seeing. And this also impacts sale prices - I've gotten quite a few figures in that 28-31 dollar range, which I think is actually a decent spot for Classified. If these were going for around 45 regular, their sale prices would be their current retail price of around 35-36. Which means a lot of sale figures I also would have passed on.

So now I'll be switching to only buying the figures I -REALLY- want when they're on sale, and buying the figures I'm iffy on.... never. Rather than buying the ones I really want at full price and the iffy ones when they go on sale. It's fucking criminal how hobbies are slowly being taken away from us. Shut up and work peasant, that's all you're good for. Right?

Is it just Classified or Hasbro as a whole?

And Canadian lol, since my Toys R Us closed down and I haven't been to one, I totally forgot they were asking $10 more than eb even before my 15% off.

It's coarse and rough and irritating and it gets everywhere.
Truest words he ever spoke.

Hasbro as a whole. The Doom figure that went up today is apparently the first Hasbro figure with the new price. The sets seem unaffected, and deluxe figures aren't known yet, just regular single figures for sure so far.

I wasn't following comics at the time of his career tanking, but reading up on how DC was gun shy about his pitch for making Vigilante about taking down corporate criminals instead of street criminals definitely feels like righting a wrong with a wrong (yeah, the guy lied about his military service and deserved to be raked over the coals for it, but also man if being afraid to make corporate scumbags the bad guys isn't the most bootlicking thing an editorial leadership team can do...)
Was not aware his career went beyond the stolen valor incident. Not familiar with Vigilante or it's premise, but just in basic description it sounds like it could be a lot of stuff Batman is already dealing with (in his own corporation or others) or like it could quickly devolve into a Captain Planet-esque book where the villains get stale after a while. I'm sure the writer would make it interesting for a few issues at least provided it's given the right type of villain, plus I remember the dialogue for Team Achilles was pretty good as well.

As for the Wildstorm Universe, I think it would have worked better if it was it's own universe within the various DC realities. Sometimes blending but most of the time operating on its own. Having some sort of "universe-ending" event crossover with Superman and the JLA helping to fight whatever the aliens from WildCATS were called would have been unique at least. Beyond that I only really feel like Grifter gets utilized in the DC universe and that's mostly because he's just an easy archetype to plug in that will bring a few readers based on coolness.

I've never felt like the Watchmen moving into DC brought that much beyond the initial crossover establishing them as being there.

Anyone else have issues with this thread (only) not giving notifications? I found this issue Monday (hadn't notified in a week), so I unwatched then watched and even though the button at the top currently says "unwatch" I haven't seen any notifications since Monday.
