G.I. Joe Classified Series

I actually liked the techno viper as a kid so it's not a big leap for me to get him.

And I feel like Mindbender would find use for some of the techno viper's doodads.

Okay reminding myself about Resolute, the voice cast SLAYS me. Four actors for the entire production, and who does Steve Blum think he is doing THAT combination of roles? Roadblock AND Wild Bill? Insanity, I say, insanity
  • Charlie Adler as Cobra Commander, Stalker, Flint, Gung-Ho, Hard Master, Cop
  • Eric Bauza as Storm Shadow, Destro, Tunnel Rat, Cobra Soldier
  • Steve Blum as Duke, Roadblock, Wild Bill, Ripcord, Zartan, Doc, Operator, Technician
  • Grey DeLisle as Scarlett, Dial Tone, Baroness, Cover Girl
This is not unheard of. When I play Octonauts figures with my 5 year old I voice Captain Barnacles, Quazie, Peco, and Professor Inkling.

I was actually MAD as a kid that Techno-Viper was “only” a combat engineer and not, like, some crazy laser badass or something because he just looked so damn cool. Honestly, they have never missed with ol’ Techno: every time they have revisited him he comes out awesome.

Re: Resolute;
I dug it a lot, but it sometimes felt a little . . . self-consciously “edgy”? Like “oooh we’re killing guys, LOOK OUT it’s hardcore time! Let’s do some swears!!”
And, of course, it made a definitive statement on the Scarlett dating situation that I strongly, STRONGLY disagree with so that kinda totally blew the story-drama for me. But it looked great and there were a lot of fun fights and such.

First off, I appreciate your honesty and upfrontness. Secondly... I kinda wanna read that though! I think I'm psyching myself up for putting my books more out there so getting scathed like that may be good practice!

:D

I'm utterly in love with this idea.
Of course you are. I literally described the core conceit of ARAH Joe.

Haw!!! Message received though. I appreciate the techno viper intervention and the heartfelt place it came from. The cockles I assume. The cockles of the heart.
We're friends. Pals. Buddies. Comrades. You never go half-cockle on your comrades. From us, you only get the full cockles.

Truly, the Renaissancest of all Renaissance men. Also, I didn't even know Octonauts had action figures but it makes perfect sense that they would.

We all know they did the Scarlett thing just to be contrary. Kind of like the overly edgy attitude they had sometimes. It was just to do the thing the audience didn't expect. Although killing Bazooka kind of worked, even if it came from the same place; because it did set some stakes in Joe that I would not have anticipated of a cartoon version of the franchise.

Also, Techno-Viper is obviously the Cobra version of Sci-Fi. That is the correct interpretation and I am not open to feedback at this time.

Their uncle bought them a multi pack with the complete core cast. They got a couple of the Gups (submarine vehicles) from a friend. When they got the Octopod (the command center/play set) it reminded me of my first play set, Castle Greyskull, and I felt profound pride. When they grow up and sell off all their toys, I am absolutely keeping the Octonauts and displaying them in my figure room.

Great idea. That's something I wish I'd done with at least a couple of the toys my kids were really into when they were young. Just keep them to display for the memories of it.

Fun stuff. I got my kids a bunch of Octonauts figures and plushes. It’s an educational show, too!

Techno-Viper runs into a Saw-Viper in the elevator.
"You look miserable, dude."
"I'm wearing full helmet."
"Body language. I'm an empath. What's the problem. Cobra Commander fry another laptop looking at adult movies of people cosplaying himself again?"
"Worse. I've been assigned to Mindbender's lab."
"...who did you piss off?"
"I did too good a job fixing the Commander's keyboard. Apparently he mentioned it to Mindbender and he's having trouble with some... tubing. Something about brain juice and baby oil reacting badly to each other."
"I'd rather be on the front line."
"Yeah. And worse, the last guy who worked on Mindbender's stuff ended up a Frag-Viper."
"Frag-Vipers are..."
"I KNOW."

(On topic - after the last four figures were shipped DHL and took two weeks to get to me, Footloose and Darklon are Fedex and expected in two days. Feeding my need for relentless Joes...)

I just got done watching The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and while I'm not ready to outright make a case for Guy Ritchie to do a Joe movie - it had the tone. Somewhat crazy specialists enjoying their fight against tyranny.

Yeah, I like Resolute overall but I didn't like that. Killing off characters doesn't make me say, "Oh man, the stakes are high!" It just leaves me cold. If a character death is earned during the course of a good story, so be it. But opening things up with, "Bang! Bazooka's dead!" Meh.

I honestly don't remember Resolute's take on Scarlett's dating. It's been a long time.

I'm liking what I'm reading about setting the GI Joe movie in the 80's and the reasoning for it. Yes, I'm on board with this. This means you get to keep the Snake Eyes/Storm Shadow/Stalker backstory in 'Nam. One of the coolest comic origins ever.

I'm convinced there is a correct way to go at a GI Joe movie, but I think there's more creativity here, a better understanding of the material, than Hollywood would have.

I appreciate that. Half-cockle is such a tease.
I always thought the Techno-Viper was one of the coolest looking troopers around. The helmet design reminded me of the robot troopers from the movie Black Hole.

A Saw Viper claiming to be an empath is HILARIOUS.
Brilliant callback!
"I KNOW."
And solid ending.

For the record, none of my Keanu's were sarcastic.

My Prime Day Snow Serpent just showed up. It's my second one, but it was fun to mess around with him because I've had my first one put away in a box for quite a while now. It's a fun figure. I forgot how much I hate his gun, though.

Okay, well, I don't hate his gun. I actually love his gun. I was deeply influenced by Dusty and Metal Gear Solid, so I actually love me a FAMAS.

But it does not work at all with this figure. His hand doesn't hold it well at all. The bulkiness of the figure means he cannot shoulder it properly. I just don't like it for this figure. I'd forgotten about that, as I had originally intended to figure out a different main rifle for my other Snow Serpent and then I put him away and just kind of.. never did.

In the old 25A days, my Snow Serpents had, I believe, Marauder AK-74s. Probably going to try for something like that, maybe? Not sure yet. Having two, I kind of like the idea now of outfitting them with two different types of arms - like a mini fire team. Maybe a regular assault rifle and the other with some type of rifle/grenade launcher combo or marksman's rifle? Hm.

I feel like the Snake Eyes/Tommy/Stalker/Rock n' Roll 'Nam origin story is almost like a less historically influential, but also important, tie to history as Magneto and WWII. There's ways to write around it to modernize it, but those comic panels of the chopper and the fire are haunting and almost need to happen to do it right. (Man, Larry could write, huh?)

It's funny, I know the last thing anyone should do in Hollywood is adapt straightup fan fic, but so often they crank something out without any feel for where it came from and it's like you could have at least included some people who LIKED the property in the writers room...

A Saw Viper claiming to be an empath is HILARIOUS.
That was, admittedly, a VERY deliberate choice.
