lol now you have me thinking about Namco unironically changing the ghost design in future versions. it's not even far off from reality. for all i know, it's already happened!
 
I feel like there wouldn't be an actual problem with releasing a hooded Cobra Commander. Especially if they just had the hooded head as an alternate pack-in. Or the figure was Pulse only. Some corporate stooge is just being overly sensitive. If fact if hooded CC kicked up a bit of controversy, maybe it would be good for the brand. Get it some attention.

I had the misfortune of having to deal with a string of tech CEOs the past few years and I will now never, ever, doubt the stupidity, cowardice, and psychopathy associated with executives at that level. Every time I thought I met the most rock-stupid one, I met another one who topped him.

Wasn't Hasbro super gunshy about making a main line Red Skull for years and years? Which is funny, cos isn't an actual fascist monster the best villain to have your heroic figures beat the ever-living bag out of? And there was their whole "we can't make Daimon Hellstrom or other demonic-themed figures" nonsense for a long time. Though they made a Daimon very recently, so maybe if we wait long enough...
 
The “we can’t make demons or hellish things or anything that might upset Chick-tract reading zealots” is that special kind of stupid, my old foe: the damn Satanic Panic, which has never actually gone away and is only more annoying when coming out of the mouths of redhats.
Sigh. Did the term paper I wrote in 8th grade about the Salem Witch Trials and the dangers of religious extremism and why you shouldn’t follow trends go completely unread?!?!
Oh wait, yeah, it definitely did.

Heh. I live in Salem, surrounded by the remnants of the stupidity of overreacting religious bigots. Never far from my mind. Plus I'm a 48 year old D&D player who lived through that panic too. Hurray for fearmongering idiots! Sigh.
