Obviously it’s one of my favorite childhood films and it perhaps has the most badass Dracula moment ever (the lighting-crackle cop-slaughter death-walk scene), but boy oh boy that 80s Shane Black humor ages precisely the way you’d expect 80s Shane Black humor to age. As uncomfortable to hear all the casual homophobia and misogyny dripping from the lips of Arnold and co in Predator, it’s far more disappointing coming from the mouths of kids in this film. BUT beyond some pathetic “jokes” and a whole subplot about revenge porn used in a “positive” light by the “heroes” to “save the day”, the movie really holds up. Tom Noonan is a top-tier Frankenstein Monster and he breaks my heart every time I watch it: “sc—scary?” I can’t.
