Walking a tightrope.
Yes.The more retro/anachronistic/not-from-our-real-world the Joes look the better for me.
It’s more that I just don’t have any connection to nor care for the real-world military, except for the “ick” of “modern warfare”, which is definitely largely connected to that modern casual-desert-gear, Chris Kyle look that is so popular with the sniveling cowards of MAGA and ICE.admit I go the other way. I get the reflex of this reminding you of the ugly, traumatic thing, but they're very separated in my head.
But I am also the guy who is utterly unable to picture Hayden Christianson in the Vader suit during the OT. Just a different character for me.
Hayden has grown on me over the years, and the Clone Wars have changed my overall opinion on pre-Vader Anakin, but I absolutely don't picture him beneath the helmet watching the OT. (That being said, his face to face scene with Obi-Wan in Kenobi where he says he's not Obi-Wan's failure? Fucking staggeringly good performance and writing, and the editing weaving both voices together based on who is in control down to the WORD is worth the price of admission. But OT Vader is a whole other thing.)I'll admit I go the other way. I get the reflex of this reminding you of the ugly, traumatic thing, but they're very separated in my head. Yeah, it's this. Chris Kyle was the name I couldn't come up with earlier in the thread, actually. Basically everything you said here perfectly mirrors my feelings. I mean I also find rivet-counting WWII zealots annoying, too, but it's that generation of Blackwater military contractor scumbags who led to where we are now that gives me the ick. It’s more that I just don’t have any connection to nor care for the real-world military, except for the “ick” of “modern warfare”, which is definitely largely connected to that modern casual-desert-gear, Chris Kyle look that is so popular with the sniveling cowards of MAGA and ICE.
Yeah, I wasn't into that either.Oh, complicated reaction from me on this one. You know Destro's my favorite and I'm very biased on him. And I like him in long coat. But I don't like the robo-hand.
Definitely. He feels more Hydra than usual. And I don't like that THIS long coat feels very Reich-coded.
I think that's all fair.I prefer my Destro a bit flamboyant and not a true believer, and this specific look feels too fasc-fash for me. Treachcoat, sure, tits out, sure, but that high collar and gold braid make it a yuck for me. Which is weird cos I generally like the Resolute looks a LOT.
Yeah, I'm not even commenting on his performance or anything. I just can't see them as the same character at all.Hayden has grown on me over the years, and the Clone Wars have changed my overall opinion on pre-Vader Anakin, but I absolutely don't picture him beneath the helmet watching the OT.
I completely agree. I enjoyed the show overall anyway but that scene, yes, was just incredible.(That being said, his face to face scene with Obi-Wan in Kenobi where he says he's not Obi-Wan's failure? Fucking staggeringly good performance and writing, and the editing weaving both voices together based on who is in control down to the WORD is worth the price of admission. Yes. And I didn't put thar together until the package art for Classified played into it. To be fair to me though, the figure itself was subdued. When I was a kid I always thought his red collar was like a Cobra hood. Is that what they were going for?
