G.I. Joe Classified - News & Updates

Forgive my ignorance, but what's the issue with using AI for gags? I get it when it comes to peoples jobs.

First off, AI itself learns to create all these Styles by pulling from other artists, who are not compensated or even consented to be copied from. So there's a whole ethical debate you can have there.

Quite a few of us are artists or writers or designers or actors, creatives in general, and the AI scene is setting itself up to be the mortal enemy.

Second, plenty of sources and reading, but.quick google:

So you can have some more ethical debate there.

Third, the tech is destroying... The tech industry, certainly not helped by the economy.

Fourth, look into Musk and Grok's current pornography thing on X, and Sam Altman in general. The benevolent Tech Bros who are giving us this means to make gags.

That's a starter pack.

All those Gags come from this stew, and this community tends to be on the No Thanks end of the movement.

I present all this this in a friendly tone, I'm not trying to lecture you. Just give you some starting points.

The hard part is making people care, or not falling into the "It affects me so I care" spiral. We all have that in us otherwise we wouldn't interact with the world, or eat anything but a self grown, vegan, raw food diet. We all accept the inherent pain caused to others by living our lives in general. Do we get up in arms about the plight of sub-minimum wage workers at farms by not eating farm raised foods? Do we not go out to sit down restaurants because of poor wages and people living on tips? Do we only buy clothes that are made in expensive wage countries? Do we not shop at large chain stores who don't pay their workers a living wage? Do we not buy action figures because of the pay and work conditions of factories? Do we stop using mobile tech and websites that have had AI as part of their infrastructure for years? Do we stop living because everything we do affects our water?

On the creative side do we not buy third party products because they are infringing on copyrights? Do we not buy commission work from artists who use copyright characters they don't have a legal agreement to use?

Being on this board for a period of time should give people an idea of where the majority lies. Of course there are going to be exceptions and disagreements, but overall it becomes clearer the more time spent on this board. However the argument against AI is fraught with that idea of "It affects me so I care" while ignoring so many other aspects of life.

For sure. Video game community I'm in loves to take hard stances on labor, union, AI, Israel, Russia , US military industrial complex, misogyny/sexualization yadda yadda as you listed above.

But then play Call of Duty and Battlefield and support indie devs because they need AI help and sexualization is fine when it's anime weeb tiger girls.

Alright.

The AI thread in the Lounge is a great place to discuss all the myriad problems with AI.

To be clear: we discourage the use of AI throughout Articulated Thoughts, for any reason.

MEANWHILE, in actual Classified news:

My case of the next Retro wave (Zap, Adam Sandl—I mean Crazy-Legs, and lady Crimson Guard) is currently processing at Entertainment Earth.

I've just been counting down to when we see what their SnowCAT repaint will be, but we really can expect a Dragonfly and Rattler in between.
The TigerCat is legitimately my favorite childhood Joe vehicle and I would buy it in an INSTANT.
