G.I. Joe Classified - News & Updates

Thanks to recent posts, I came around and canceled my Destro/Despoiler too. I'd have no place to put that vehicle. I do want Destro, but I'll wait for a single carded version. Or let Armada be the Iron Grenadiers commander.

I think Bobby does have good points on things and makes good product, I just wish he'd put the money where his mouth is instead of the podcast mic.

Don't tell me why the other guy sucks. Show me why you're the one I should go with.

Ha ha between the Despoiler and “good guy Boba Fett”, I’m definitely in the “positive contrarian” seat today.

My Despoiler arrives today! I’m so stoked! Definitely would have just bought Destro solo, but I loved this vehicle as a kid and I generally always preferred the single-rider “character signature” vehicles, so this is the sweetest of sweet spots for me.

Basically, his overall point was Hasbro should use Pulse more to sell their products and cut out the retailers, who are selling less action figures these days, anyway — but if they take that route, there's no reason Hasbro can't lower the prices.
If Bobby really thinks that, he's an idiot. But I don't think he really thinks that. I think he says it because he knows the audience he's speaking to are idiots and he wants to say shit to make Hasbro look bad while setting himself up as the 'here for the customers' kind of businessman.

But yeah, Hasbro should ignore the economy of scale, stop selling product to major retailers, and go fully DTC, because that will make prices ... lower. Sure.

Well... I cancelled Destro again. This is the opposite of the Falcon/Quarrel sets (that I ordered several times and returned the previous one because it kept getting cheaper within the return window). I'll probably order it and cancel again next week.

There's certainly no shame in spending money on something you genuinely want and will enjoy.

Was just thinking about that today when I was complaining about Loosecollector's prices on their Leifeld stuff. Was saying that if they were even $50, I'd bite, but couldn't do $85. But then I got to thinking about the stuff I HAVE paid $85+ for like Battletoads or Bring Arts FF7 figures. While other folks are complaining about the price, I'm happy to fork it over because I know they'll bring me enough enjoyment to justify the price. Somewhere out there is a Youngblood fan who is ecstatic to get those figures.

But obviously a company like Hasbro needs to find a price that also caters to folks who are only moderately interested in a Destro/Despoiler set. I never know how much weight to put in Bobby's "I know somebody" claims, but if that's true then hopefully we'll see Hasbro make an adjustment on future sets. Even the HAL set seemed cheaper than expected versus other figure/vehicle sets.

Of course then you have something like deluxe Cobra Commander who was seemingly supposed to be $55 before getting bumped to $70 and it still sold out everywhere.

To be fair, Dusty IS ridonk. I get oil prices are also ridonk, but in my head, Mutt and Junkyard are a $35 set because I got them on sale and the Desert Scorpion is a $29 set. So $52 is deep in ridonk territory to me.

I think Dusty is one you could wait on for sure since almost all the overpriced animal packs went on sale later. Law & Order and Mutt & Junk got Prime Day'd and Dusty is less of a draw. Only risk is if they make fewer of them because the last two got clearanced, but that's the gambling game waiting for sales, I guess.

Destro's my favorite villain, so I'm resigned to just getting the bloody Despoiler. Since the line was launched I was hoping they'd release him without it but I suspect folks are right and this is the only way they're releasing this one look, so I'm just gonna hold onto my butt and let the charge go through in a few days.

Honestly though, I don't have the spirit to chase sales and juggle preorders at the moment. That particular game stresses me TF out so I just decide do I love this character, would I be pissed if I don't get him later? Destro's one of those guys.

I didn't PO Dusty. That coyote looks very odd, and not a big draw as a result. This is not a version of Dusty I'm attached to. If I come across on sale, it's still a maybe.

Preach.

Right, and that's really the only exhibit necessary in your case. I'll pay stupid prices for certain Boba Fetts.

Same. He was third on my wishlist when I first considered really getting into Classified, and Darklon gave me hope but thee fuckers know who they're dealing with.

Yeah, I also feel this wil be the only way to get this exact version, and i know i will bend over for it sooner or later. I'm playing hard to get and Destro is patient because he knows the outcome already.

Then fuck yeah. You have the disposable income to make life easy.

I'm excited for the Despoiler and I'm not liking how oversized it is. When the crew showed it off on the livestream they kept mentioning how big it was. It's not supposed to be, but somehow that became a selling point.

Well, yeah. They have to sell it that way. They're charging you $80 for it.

But like Boy Wonder said above, if it brings you enjoyment, that's all that matters. I may be drawing a line here, but with this hobby, there's plenty I've happily overspent on.

My resolve is already fading on the HAL set ...
