G.I. Joe Classified 2025 Top Ten Poll

I never got into FNM but can admit Payton’s vocal talent. The few FNM songs I know are infectious. RHCP eventually became a one trick pony, not utilizing its greatest strengths. They had some solid albums that I listened to forever (LOVED By The Way) but every reference to California made it more and more grating after a while. Flea, John, and Chad are excellent musicians, but Kiedis is an acquired taste and a bit of a creep, dating a girl young enough to be his granddaughter.

I don't know what you've heard, I'm guessing their first album with him (The Real Thing, with stuff like Epic and Falling To Pieces, which has some other great songs), but each album after is pretty different. Angel Dust was their second one (and they did the Easy single around the same time) which is kinda more mellow but really shows off what they could do, and my favorite album may be Album of the Year, with a different guitar player. Even though Patton said it was bad music, heh.

Yeah, I get that. And whatever the others are doing that is really interesting, Kiedis really only has one or two melodies.

Ugh, well yeah. I'm all-too aware of his upbringing and abuse and almost entirely life-long drug addiction etc because my wife has read all the autobiographies etc. But still, yeah, that's just... ugh. He's always been the least interesting person in the band to me, just musically, because I actually have difficulty tuning into lyrics for most songs. I have to listen to a song a lot to start grasping the actual words (which is kinda nice for songs in other languages since it's the same to me, or Cocteau Twins etc), so vocals tend to be just another instrument for me and his gets REAL repetitive.

I’m the same way about the lyrics! I never really hear them unless I start to consciously listen, maybe even read them. I’ve always paid more attention to melodies and harmonies and instrumentation. I’m kinda that way about comics too, it’s always been more about the visuals to me than what they were saying or what the plot of the story was.

heh, same! I had a friend who mocked me for not pouring over every word the way he did but I would go back and read some of them in more depth.
