Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

Huh. Love the character design. I kinda wish they did the henchman separately instead of making him buildable by removing the robes and swapping the head. I'm not enough of a kit basher to not feel like those parts would go to waste if I picked up a second to be a bodyguard. Interesting world building doing a master of coin and commerce - when was the last time we got an action figure of a banker?
Unfortunately this seems to be the new normal for a lot of companies and 4HM is one of the worst offenders. Every figure is "deluxe" and comes with tons of hands and accessories (which are generally cheap to produce) at an inflated pricepoint. They also have several heads for alternqte looks and army building but who can do so at such prices and anyway doing so leaves one with boxes of redundant extra parts one can't use. That's not value. What would be better for the end user is to sell low price point army builders (which used to be a thing from 4HM) or to just strip down the standard figure releases in the first place, reduce pricepoint, and sell accessory packs.

Instead we get stuff like, "we're including a treasure chest with the imp to fill out the package and improve value but also this figure with a treasure chest is also now deluxe and costs $8 more cuz treasure chest."

The deluxe listing price for the Imp was an error, he’s the standard $42 price.

Glad it’s not an all pirates wave, Captain Ironjaw is awful, hate him.

I also hate how much I love the rest of the wave! I’m trying to save money here guys, and you’re giving me imps and mermaids?! Knock it off!

I didn't think I'd be a fan of the "set piece to offset small figure" thing with the imp sized figures, but I got the Cosmic Legions set pieces recently and man, I use them for EVERYTHING, so I'm really enjoying them. The little portable computer monitor/case? A DELIGHT. I'm betting I'll get good mileage out of the fantasy versions of these, too.

Proof not every figure is for every person: Captain Ironjaw is EXACTLY what I want. A bald, half-blind, left-handed, tattooed asshole? That's a figure made specifically for ME. (Definitely not the pirate for everyone but I'm a bald half-blind left-handed, tatooed asshole and he speaks to me).

I'm still on the fence about the swappable tail/legs thing. I skipped the fire genie a few waves ago because I don't love how their torso swaps work (it's always such a damned struggle to get those parts to separate. I do like the color palette on her fins though.

Also, credit where credit's due - after YEARS of some of the worst, least marketing friendly, grammatical nightmare names ever given to action figure characters, they do seem to have hit a sweet spot naming this wave things we'll actually remember so we're not like "the dark-skinned wizard with all the A's in his name" "the blue dragon dude whose name I can't pronounce" etc. These follow the old Everquest rule of "name your character something people can remember so they can find you later."

I'm not into pirate stuff. At least not historic pirates. But I can appreciate the vibe and designs of fantasy pirates. Captain Ironskul looks pretty good.

I do find this trend of packing in diorama stuff with small figures and then offering the same diorama stuff in an accessory set...in the same wave to be a bit silly. I know reuse is the name of the game, but maybe they could have put something else in either the accessory set or with the imp. Like a cannon. And then repaint them down the road. If fact, a cannon with the imp would have been nice. You could army build imps and end up with a row of cannons.

Okay, I will always consider a character with an unhelmeted head, those are my favorites in this line, but I just reacted to Vitus unmasked the way people reacted to the Beast in the Disney movie when e reverted to human: ew, you were hotter when you were scary.

That being said, I've never been FULLY happy with the gladiators because all their faces are hidden, so I could see picking Vitus 2.0 up. I do have the original, but this could stand alone as a separate character on the shelf.

Ok. Walrus guy for the win.

Vitus is a bit boring. And he's going to usher in a whole lot of gladiator/spartan redoes. His helmet is so ornate, I feel it shouldn't be repainted as much as they did in the past. Well, I hope they redo a green armor gladiator/spartan guy at the least.
