Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

It's a toy forum and I keep up with all the toy news. And then I discuss what I think is worth discussing.
Also, being a mod, I try to read as many threads as I can, so I'm always going to be reading what's going on whether I like the company or not as long as you guys are actively talking about them (for instance, the email we're discussing now I learned about right here).

Cool.

I imagine there's some recency bias here. Over the grandness of 102 pages at current count, I haven't posted all that much. But over the last 30 pages or so? Definitely. Because there's been things to talk about. Beyond that, I'd also point out that it's a discussion forum. You can say I post about it 'a lot' - but it's generally in the context of ongoing conversations, not just me showing up to scream into the void two or three times per page.

But yeah, I'm pretty comfortable getting into it, in detail, when companies do some bullshit. It's just that, at the moment, the 4H are the ones doing some bullshit. As you've seen a few of us regularly discussing. I'm probably the most vitriolic about it - but that is simply my way. It does not have to be yours.

Hope that helps.
Like I said, I wasn't tying to start an argument or change someone's behavior. I just sought understanding. I myself am not wired to talk very much about things I dislike or hate, as I try not to give it that much thought. So it made me curious and I figured I would ask. I hope I did not come off rude or judgemental.

This fall on NBC, That's Damien!

I don't think it's arrogant to say that this show would be fucking FIRE and you guys would absolutely love it.
I would have also accepted 'Damien Explains It All.'

Damien's TTRPG Kickstarter is called Swords & Standards. He's afflicted with having too many of both.

I categorically reject the idea that you can have too many of either.

Seriously, I don't get this 4H email. Are they going into GAMA Expo wanting, like, an unassailable backer level so no one can point out they've brought a game that's not actually a game?

That's my reading of it. They want to walk into a space where they don't belong able to swing the biggest dick in the room around so no one can say 'boo' to them. Literally just... feels icky.

Also, that whole tone of "We're all in this together" is galling

Dude, I hate this so much. It stinks of that corporate 'we're a family' bullshit you get, where it's really just your company guilt-tripping you for not doing more free work so the guy at the top can be 1001% richer than you instead of just 1000%. We're not in this together. I am a customer. You are a company that makes a product. That is the relationship.
What this -really- is, is the 4H immorally banking on the toxic, parasocial relationship their fans have with them.

I like supporting independent businesses but you guys are running a Kickstarter where you're like, "Kickstarter's shipping estimates are inaccurate, just trust us that it won't be that much!" which is not an issue I've run into with any campaign I've contributed to, gaming or otherwise, with companies located both in the U.S. and abroad. There's always a Just Trust Us attached to everything they do.

The only other company I can think of that does this is CFT. And the commonality between them and the 4H is a deep-seated entitlement and arrogance; you're lucky they're even bothering to MAKE toys for you to buy. Shut up and give us your credit card info. We'll tell YOU how much you're going to spend.

I will say from my experience on these boards Damien is pretty consistent. When he has an issue with a toy company or owner, etc., he is pretty open about it a why without holding back. So he is definitely not just on here trolling the 4H. Totally understand how harsh it can come off to someone that is not used to it.

Also for what it’s worth (and I could be wrong because tone is hard to get from posts) Damien seems to be pretty passionate in most his posts both about what things he likes and things he does not. I wouldn’t judge him or the forum solely by the posts in this thread. You at least have to check out the GI Joe threads before passing judgement.
I appreciate that. Consistency and Passion is my middle name. I also like to think I'm fair. I've given the 4H praise in the past. It's just been a long time since I felt they deserved it.
Do not go to the G.I. Joe threads, though. I don't even know what's happening over there. It's just best avoided. Like when you accidentally walk past a rave at 1am. Don't go in. Just go home and go to bed. It's safer.

The 4H have what's pretty much a cult going on, and an expensive one at that. Sometimes it feels like you can't say anything bad of them or you will be punished.

See? This is why I like to present the counter: Gonna shit all over 4H and literally no one can stop me.

Like I said, I wasn't tying to start an argument or change someone's behavior. I just sought understanding. I myself am not wired to talk very much about things I dislike or hate, as I try not to give it that much thought. So it made me curious and I figured I would ask. I hope I did not come off rude or judgemental.

We're good, man. I didn't take it in a rude way at all, and I hope I explained my position reasonably enough, even if it doesn't totally click with how you would do things.

I don’t begrudge them with their “guys please help us out” email. The question I have is would it be tacky for me to send them an email asking for their help in procuring the con exclusives?

I'm looking at houses, so I fired off a quick email to see if they'll spot me on the down payment. Since we're all in this together. I can't buy your toys if I've got no place to put them. That's 4D chess right there. Checkmate, art thieves.

I just remebered, at Zolocon I saw a woman cosplayed as the Legendary Warrior with the full face paint. She looked amazing. I assume she was pissed when they pulled the head. And before anyone asks, I saw her twice and it was never anywhere near the 4H tables. Again, I assume she just wanted to dress up and liked the look, (It did compliment her red hair.)

Man, I was at Zolocon, too, and didn't catch her. The cosplay scene I witnessed on Saturday morning was not peak but that's pretty much the only bad thing I could say about the show. A lot of great stuff for sale and it's something else to walk around a room and randomly chat with folks from Savage Crucible, Skeletron, 4H, BBTS/Monster Force, Creative Beast Studio and of course Bobby Vala. Met a lot of cool fans, too, waiting in various lines and such. Maybe it was the 60-degree weather in Philly that day, but it was a really good vibe there.

And if I had any questions about the popularity of this hobby, they were answered Saturday. It was a good 40-minute wait to check in for VIPs at 9:30 opening (after a lot of people had checked in on Friday night) and when I walked out to my car at 11:30, the line to get in the convention space stretched from the lower level check in, looped around a few times, then stretched up a flight of stairs, ran along the casino lobby, out a set of doors and around the side of the building. It was impressive to see.

And I'm not gonna bring up all the folks I saw with tote bags from LegionsCon wandering around ... For the record, I had my trusty green Dollarama bag.
