Four Horsemen Studios Mythic Legions

I asked the group I DM for tonight what it would take to get them to back a kickstarter with D&D action figures.
"Can I make a tiefling sorcerer?" Nope.
"Can I make a half-vampire?" Nope.
"Can I make a halfling?" Nope.
"Can I make an elven woman in wizard robes?" Nope.
"Can I make a weird little puppet cleric?" Nope.
"Okay well how about a gnome? How about a bard? A warlock? A dragonborn? A female rogue? A female cleric? A female paladin?"

I can't help imagining if they might've captured new hearts and minds if they focused on what they specialize in and just dug deep into character classes and combos. Hell, I like the figures on offer but it feels like so much was left on the table.

Trying to build a character using only 4H Mythic Legions stuff might as well start with "what kind of knight do you want to be?"

I feel like at least half of most waves are something other than knights lately. I'm mostly into the knights but between reuse that isn't that much different from what I have and figures that just don't interest me, I haven't been buying much 4H beyond the odd figure here and there. The last viking-themed wave I didn't really buy anything. I know the line went heavy on vampires for a while and then the skeletons/undead mostly took over those spots. Now I just buy whatever looks interesting, which hasn't been much for me personally aside from the more gladiator/Roman looking figures.

Evil fantasy knights in mostly shiny black armor yeah, loved their take on Vampires! Im not a huge fan of all the re-use, but they just looked so cool. I couldn't resist getting a gaggle of those Vampire Phalanx figures when they were up at the site for like $26

Speaking of vampires, I would definitely jump on an official Vlad the Impaler if they were to ever do one for their Figura Obscura line someday.

YES PLEASE.

I have Sideshow’s 1/6 version and also their large statue of Vlad (this one has been on display for over 20 years and I regularly swap out the human/vampire heads), but I would love a 6inch figure.

But my #1 FO priority is Count Dracula as described in Stoker’s book.

The only time I have seen true "build your own from parts" work was the Droid Factory stations at Disney when they had dozens of Astromech Droid parts and you could make your own combo - either keeping with the established pairings of dome and bodies by model or just whatever color and part combos you wanted. I spent about an hour building those years ago and it was great. But it helped as an in-person experience.

I wonder if the savings on not assembling and packaging parts into a figure would offset the expense of the logistics of pulling the parts for shipping from online build your own parts lists. And how easy it would be to digitally assemble and preview a figure online. I would think that could be popular but would it be popular enough that they wouldn't be competing against their standard figures?

I also think the packs for $15 to modify a figure is a trial balloon in this direction for future expansion packs related to the game.
At the least I would expect more blanks and accessory kits. Generic woman, dwarf, goblin, dragon man. Then spend to dress and arm.

Hell yeah, I had the Sideshow 1/6 figure too man! I couldn't swing the Premium Format figure back in the day, but damn I wanted it soooo bad.

Oooh I’d love a book accurate Dracula Figura Obscura that includes a Vlad head sculpt from the portrait! That would be really fun!

Also Kickstarter is currently having a BAD day.
Four new backers so far (maybe it rallies in the evening but usually the big numbers come in the morning with a few in the evening) with an average $100 pledge each.

Edit: it rallied to 12 backers with an average of $225 each later in the day. Updating out of fairness. Still the worst day of the campaign yet and one if the backers was a retailer so “$225” is probably not a true average, but hey! GAMA Expo! They got TWO more retailers! Worth the time! Anyway back to my old post…

if today is a fluke, they’re still on track to limp past $1m with an average 42 backers a day and $318 in pledges, if it’s the new normal… we’ll see!

It's like Henry Ford said, "You can have any kind of knight you want as long as the horse doesn't accidentally replicate Klan iconography. I mean, I'm okay with that, I'm a capitalist born in the 1800s. But that one...that one didn't turn out so hot for them."

I swear you must have Google alerts set up for anything pertaining to Dracula.

God it’s not even funny how much I *need* the next Halloween Figura Obscura to be a good Dracula or Vlad the Impaler…

Like I think Monster Force is a cool concept, but I don't collect GI Joes… I collect Mythic Legions. (Also not for nothing… lot of regular ass dudes in *MONSTER* Force, hardly enough Monsters)

I have the FO Frankenstein’s Monster, I think Herra Serpenspire (I’m looking up the names for this! I’m making an effort to be nice!!!) makes a great mummy stand in (I know we have three actual Gods of Egypt to choose from but I think she has a great “resurrected priestess” vibe about her), Qoi is a fantastic Creature from the Black Lagoon (although he may get replaced by Sireyn Opalscale when she arrives), and of course the Horror of Einsamall himself Garmyr will be team werewolf… oh also I pulled off Marvel Legends suit Tombstone’s head to be the Invisible man but fun think about Mythic Legions is anyone who isn’t topless can be converted into an invisible man just as easily!

Mythic Legions and Figura Obscura NEEDS a regal king of the vampires to complete my team!

All the current vampires look like the rubber masked jobbers Blade punches in the face to get to the Big Bad, I have the parts to make a Kain from Legacy of Kain custom… but an official Dracula whether from the book or history… man, that would just sing…
