Forum Feedback

I don't care if General goes to the top, but I don't think we should have subforums within it

Subforums within General could work, maybe?

Most singular import companies (SHF, Figma, etc) don't have enough individual interest within our userbase to justify an individual subforum for each, but maybe an "import" subforum within general. Hell, if we start sorting by companies, it may make sense to outright merge the gaming subforum into general since Jada, Jazwares, NECA, Figuarts, etc are behind most of the gaming lines.

A lot of posts and topics have been haphazardly posted between the two anyways. (namely third party stuff and smaller lines that aren't primarily gaming)

I think we should definitely think about the future. Fwoosh was largely stagnant with attracting new members but it seems like there are plans here to get the word out. We have an actual working forum. What is old is almost always new again and I could see an eventual push away from Facebook and other social media back into forums.

If we do grow and get busier it would be a lot easier if everything was already set up. I think things like the general Neca thread would get confusing if it were to become really active with ongoing discussions about multiple lines. I've never been a huge fan of wildly general threads anyway.

Right now we have a GI Joe forum with just a classified thread which is probably what 90% of Joe collectors collect these days. What else is there to talk about concerning GI Joe? Super 7?

Just some random thoughts.

This is a good point. The video game subforum has never been the hoppingest place. In any given year, we're never talking about that many video game figures. Most of them are one-off releases from import companies these days. (Boy Wonder might disagree with me there.) I'd consider video game figures one of my main interests and I only have a handful of game-based figures.

I actually thought about moving the thread for Jada's Cyberpunk Edgerunners figures. They're toys based on an anime based on a video game. Ultimately I thought it made the most sense in General, but the point stands.

I am sympathetic to @Popoman and creating an extra click for the sake of organization. Let's keep noodling on it.

This is another thing I thought about. We have several (11) toy-based subforums. IP like Star Wars and G.I. Joe might only have one or two active threads because most figures/lines are made by Hasbro and one high-end brand like SHF or Mezco. Does it still make sense to have them as categories? Almost certainly, but there are a lot of categories already.

I also like your point about social media. I think people, generally, are getting tired of social media. It's empty calories. It's rarely fulfilling. Will that bring them to communities like ours instead?

I'm experiencing an issue with email delivery. If you were expecting any email from the site (thread updates, PMs, etc.), they're probably not going through.

I'm aware of it and working on it. I'll keep you posted.

The email issue is more complicated than I hoped. Unfortunately, I expect to be saying that a lot over the coming months and years. Fingers crossed that this is the last big stumble on my end until we're off to the races.

My goal is to resolve most issues within a week. Don't expect to receive any emails from AT until I have it sorted.

I'll continue to keep you posted.

I'm going to go back to neglecting my inbox

How can you possibly do that?!? I'm freaking out just imagining it.

I'm with you. I primarily collect anime, game, and more "niche" comic figures. Gaming toys are fairly few and far between, and most releases are third party, anyways. Even more rare are the precise things I'd buy of those categories getting figures, lol.

Ruminated on this for a bit while writing up an essay of thoughts on bad cartoons, but a few ideas I have in terms of forum organization... I'll bullet point a bunch
  • I think it would be great to move the General section (as in, where housekeeping etc is located) to the absolute top of the forums. Mostly because having rules in a section at the absolute top of the forums would be stellar.
  • General (toy subforum) has three really major options, it could be left as is which I think is fine though less tidy, sorted into companies (which would leave a bunch loose anyways, only really half-sorting), or sort by "topic" (gaming, comics, film & television, etc) which would also cover the general interests people have and look for... though some threads like general third party would be a bit alienated by a "topic" sorting
  • Could MOTU be turned into an "80s Cartoons Nostalgia" board instead? Brands like MOTU, Thundercats, Silverhawks, etc. They all kind of fit a specific box, at least in my head. Visionaries, MASK, etc also fall under this. Of course, some brand like Transformers and TMNT (And maybe GI Joe) are massive enough and has so many lines that they justify their own subforums, but this could be a consideration
