Football Talk

I was on Twitch last Thursday and saw the TNF game streaming there. Not sure if that's a regular thing, but I'm going to try to watch Seattle/LAR that way.

Huge football day. KC eliminated, Mahomes & Parsons tore ACLs, and Buffalo, Seattle, LAR, and Denver snuck by in big games.

It's still wide open this year, but I'd be relatively surprised if one of LAR, Seattle, Buffalo, Denver, or New England didn't win the Super Bowl. Houston and Philly are in the mix, too. I think the Lions may have missed their window.
My physical therapist was telling me she watches a lot of games on Twitch (or maybe TikTok) which are just people basically recording the screen of an actual game. They're usually flagged as games of Madden to avoid copywrite bots.

The Rams/Seahawks game is interesting. I have to be rooting for the Seahawks - which feels gross and awful. But I need the Rams to lose two of their last 3 and then if we beat Seattle in week 18 the Niners win the west. Assuming we beat the Bears on the way there it would probably also make SF the one seed. It isn't going to happen, though. The Lions had a half time lead over the Rams and couldn't work it out. There was a brief minute there where I thought the Rams and Seahawks might both lose while Niners won and I was excited. Too good to be true as the Rams stomped the Lions in the second half and Seattle took advantage of inexplicable clock management by the Colts to get a game winning 60 yarder. Sigh

While I was rooting for KC to lose and be eliminated, having Mahomes seriously injured wasn't on the wish list. I do wonder if Kelce retires or if he sticks around another year so Pat will have his security blanket as he comes back from injury.

That's going to be a tough one for him to come back from. Mahomes likes to use his legs, but it sounds like he's having surgery this week so he's got a chance. Heck, Wes Welker blew out his ACL in the final game of the 2009 regular season and was back for week 1 so anything is possible. A lot of radio personalities were dumping on Mahomes for his "dad bod" and questioning his commitment in the offseason so he can at least look at this rehab as an opportunity to shut some of those folks up. With KC eliminated, the Chiefs should make up an injury for Kelce to get him into the offseason even sooner. Maybe the extra long offseason will convince him to come back. He's not what he used to be, but he's still worthwhile to have on the field if he's committed to playing. Some of the other older guys on that team are probably going to quietly enjoy not playing football into February for a change.

Yeah I was really ready to see KC eliminated after all these years of them torturing us Niners fans. But seeing a generational talent like Mahomes seriously injured sucks. I never want to see the best players hurt. It's bad for the league and worse for the fans.

As for the Niners, it's really amazing what they've been able to accomplish this year with all the devastating injures they've had. It's been an interesting ride. Unfortunately, I don't think the defense will be able to hold up against the better teams in the playoffs.

But you never know. So go Seahawks! Let's make it interesting down to the wire.

I, uh, turned off the game at 30-14 and didn't check back in until I saw someone talking about it on Bluesky. The game was over by that point.

I went to bed thinking the Rams had it. Good for Seattle, and good for Darnold. He definitely needed that.

The forum needs an "angry" (or "disappointed") reaction option under the Like button...

🤣

Totally understandable, given this was the first time in Seahawks history they came back from a 15+ point deficit in the 4th quarter, which in itself is an amazing stat. (Somthing like 0-172 prior to this game).

Truthfully Rams outplayed the Seahawks, it was a few fluky events that kept Seattle in it...

I'm happy because now if the 49ers win out they are the one seed in the NFC... and that would be awesome. They have to earn it by beating the Bears and Seahawks back to back... but its not impossible. That would be like two playoff games to earn a bye and then 3 more playoff games to be champs 😁

I watch about 2 games a year at this point, but breaking local news... The Chiefs are moving to Kansas. Not too terribly far from myself, about 10 miles. The Royals are seriously looking to move as well. If you want to know what regret looks like, look no further than the residents of Jackson County Missouri. They had the Royals and the Chiefs sharing a parking lot, and all that revenue, but efforts to develop the area and keep them there collapsed. There are many sides to the story, and I don't want to make it sound like I'm on the side of billionaire team owners, but this is not good for that community and I wonder what else they could have done to keep at least one of those teams.

I've been to see the Royals at Kaufman Stadium years ago and of course saw Arrowhead next to it - it did strike me as feeling isolated/distanced in some ways, and wondered why the parking area directly between the two stadia wasn't developed with event space, food, etc., to provide a pre and post game experience. Very much felt like, drive in, game, drive out, hit the Interstate and go home.
