Figura Obscura

Was there a limited window for Ganesha? I placed my order at 10:30am Eastern, didn't it go up at 9am?

Hey Norm, from an eMail they sent out yesterday:

"We will do 2 sale drops for this figure – one tomorrow and the second a few weeks from now. The first drop will be at 9am EST tomorrow (4/19/25). The majority of the stock we have for this new Figura will be offered in this sale, BUT we are also planning to hold some back for a second drop that we will do sometime next month. We know that we are coming off the big Beyithirr campaign and some wallets may need a little extra recovery time, so while we will drop most of the stock on this new release tomorrow, for those fans who need that little extra time, we will also have some next month as well for a second planned release! We will release the date of that second drop in a few weeks."

A bit different than previous drops. Looks like he is still for sale at 5pm pacific time.

Been thinking about Dorklair’s intro guesses to his review. The cryptozoology on that pamphlet with the graveyard skeletons has me thinking we’ll be seeing something in that genre this year. Could it be that Obscura is growing and we get a summer drop? Summer time is when people go outdoors and camping and start seeing things out in nature. The cryptozoology theme would work perfectly for that!

And that would then make the line about quarterly. The spring one misses Q1 but with the Halloween and Christmas figures both being Q4 makes sense to spread that out a bit beyond Q1 but still hitting the next season. Q3 could sure use a release. I do think Bigfoot and the Jersey Devil could be among the first figures they do. I would love a Nessie at some point. Maybe she can be the next Dragon sized release haha?

Spring - global mythology
Summer - cryptozoology?
Fall - literary horror
Winter - Yuletide stories

As much as I would love a Bigfoot, I just don't see how they can make him exciting enough to wow people. He's just a big hairy guy. There's no clothing decor or any exciting accessories they could really give him.

Jean St. Jean’s single wave of cryptids were amazing. Been picking up his statues with each new Small Town Monster kickstarter.

But Justice has a good point that many of the cryptozoology creatures could be light on accessories, which has been one of the shining hallmarks of the line. A few interchange hands, feet, and heads would still feel a little light. Bigfoot could include some scale footprint casts but unless they come with a diorama base or something I’m drawing a blank on what other accessories they could be packed with. Since we know something cryptozoological is coming at some point it will be interesting to see what that ends up being and what they pack in with it.

Mothman could come with the famous statue. lol

Been watching some interviews the Horsemen and Jermey did on Saturday. They talked about how they really did their homework on Ganesha to make sure it wasn’t accidentally offensive. From the pose of the static trunk to not including plugs in the back to make a 2 armed version, they made sure it was a respectful and accurate figure. They mentioned no other pantheons were off limits but they don’t have plans for any other current religions at this time.

Another thing that I picked up on was Jermey was asked if we’d see this new torso again such as on the Ghost of Christmas Present and he coyly responded that the fun of Figura Obscura is that nothing is predictable. That made it sound like the Ghost of Christmas Present might not actually be the Christmas figure this year. I know some aren’t fans of the Christmas Carol beat but at this point I’d really like to see them wrap it up before moving on to the next thing. 4-5 figures a year at a time does take a while to get through and understandably a while to endure while that phase passes if you’re not a fan. Hopefully I took that wrong and it was more in response to the body use than inferring that we wouldn’t be getting the next ghost in the story.

Wild if true. The Greek and Norse mythologies are elephants in the room.
By current religions I mean those widely practiced today. They touched on Christianity and while Chris on the team is currently running the Biblical Adventures line they don’t have plans to encroach on his endeavors there. I think Norse and Greek are on their radar as they keep getting brought up as wants by many. I think narrowing it down to just one or two would be the challenge there.

And they did name drop cryptozoology again, which makes me think we’re going to see the first in that theme this year still. If there is a Christmas Carol pause this year, a Yeti seems like a logical winter choice if we don’t see something else before then.

Oh, I totally missed the "current" in your original post. My bad.

Obviously the way to do it is to release a giant box set of four or five at one time. 😄

In seriousness, I'd like to see them double up with a Loki/Thor or Zeus/Poseidon set or something. Like they did with Bastet and Anubis.

I had a package pop up in my USPS app from Little Falls, NJ. Most likely this figure I think. Aren't the Four Horsemen based in New Jersey or am I confusing them with someone else?

You are correct. I had one pop up in my FedEx app, and Shopify updated that the package was shipping.
