So I like this Jersey Devil, I think it’s cool, I bought one within the first 20 minutes of it going live which because I’m on the West Coast meant I was up at 5:45am with my wife getting ready to decide if we wanted the new Figura Obscura…

This fast sell out kinda means nothing, since they’re not really “sold out”, there’s another drop on Friday, and the things not even in stock yet so it’s not like they sold out of quantity on hand and you’re waiting for the next truck load to arrive before you get one… the amount for the Saturday drop was completely arbitrary, in fact I’d go so far to say leaving up for over 24 hours completely negated the need for “two chances” to begin with, it made sense with Krampus, you do an ass crack of dawn morning sale so it’s a big surprise drop, cut it off and then an evening drop for anyone who likes to sleep/wants to see DorkLair’s preview video to see if they want/more than one… if it’s staying up all damn day, then everyone has had a chance to buy one.

The “it sold out” when a new batch goes up in three days is just marketing. And I’m sure Fridays stock will also sell out completely within 24 hours… except for every time they show a convention booth there’s gonna be a whole pile of Figura Obscuras sitting behind them, and then when they do a special sale a bunch of them and Father Christmas and Sun Wu Kong and Ganesha pop up as “special finds”

I’m not even sure what point I’m trying to make here other than my brothers in Christ! YOU MADE UP THE EDITION SIZE AND STILL HAVE MORE STOCK TO SELL! That’s not a fast sell out that’s just “we sold 500 in a day! Better luck Friday!”

Yep, it's all bullshit FOMO marketing.
The 4H used to have legitimate sell outs because they were a small company producing small runs of figures.
Now, they just blatantly prey on people's insecurities.

Apropos of nothing, I just happened to look over on the shelve where I've got most of my Figura Obscura boxes (I don't keep many boxes but the box art on these are gorgeous and feel worth saving for actual display) and caught myself staring at the two characters on the side of Sun Wukong's box. I wonder if we'll ever see them follow up with Tang Sanzang or Zhu Bajie to complete the characters from Journey to the West. Probably not, completionism isn't really their goal with these figures, but the fact that we have them on the box just caught my eye. Bajie in particular feels like something 4H would like to do.

I'm a fiend for Journey to the West and have read both the Arthur Waley and Anthony Yu translations (Yu's is much better) and would love nothing more than for them to do the remaining three characters, but like you said, I know the Horsemen don't really go in for complete mythologies or full rosters so I'm content just to have Wukong. I need to snag those Fury Toys Little Monkeys so Wukong can have a troop to command.

I'd love to see them do the other main characters, but I can live with just a really nice Wukong. Didn't know about those little guys! Those are great.

One of my favorite light-dawn-on-marble-head moments of watching a TV show was realizing Into the Badlands was a retelling of Journey to the West about three episodes too slowly. "Wait a minuOH MY GOD THAT IS WHAT THIS IS???" Underrated show.
