Figura Obscura

Did they stop doing two different drop times? I haven't been following 4H for a while, but IIRC they had a morning order window and a later window as well.
They’re changing that up this time, likely due to the last one not selling out making the 2nd drop meaningless. I think only those interested in the all-in need to worry about waking up early for the drop. The figure still be available hours later.

I think you all guessed correctly, and it's Ganesha. I'm stoked and likely in for him pending final product reveal (which will likely be incredible.) I don't think an action figure from a living religion is taboo necessarily, especially if it is well made and reverent like this one likely will be. Some people might balk at a Jesus figure but TBH most Christians would probably think it was cool if 4H did it well. Same with archangels, etc.

Plenty of occultists, neopagans, Kemetists etc that actively worship the Egyptian pantheon, though of course the numbers are much smaller than Hinduism. But protections perhaps shouldn't be contingent on follower count.

But we shall see! Do I set my alarm for 5:55am tomorrow or do I take my chances?

So we have Ganesh and Hamuman in quick order. Rubbing hands together thinking about Shiva, Kali, Parvati, Garuda, Indra, Brahma, Krishna

Instant order for me.

Ok. I was thinking about it. I'm going to try not using the word Mythology to talk about the spring drops now. Since this is an active religion, that seems kind of shitty.

Myth doesn’t mean false. It means an ancient story; usually sacred that helps us understand the world and our place in it. I went to graduate school in Religious Studies (basically History of Religions). It is the accurate way to describe these stories and the academic standard way of discussing them.

Dorklair has his traditional review up and also kind of paused around the word ‘mythology.’ It’s not being used negatively but merely meant to sum up the stories, culture, and everything surrounding a religion or being. You could certainly call Bible stories apart of the Christian mythology and not mean that to be taken negatively at all. But certainly something to be sensitive of with this coming come an active rather than ancient religion.

I do think this figure looks wonderful. It’s going to make me go back and track down the Monkey King. The spring theme has really started to get fleshed out now and a wide variety of cultures is now being represented. Greek and Norse mythology has been highly requested and I could certainly see figures from that fitting in with what they’ve done so far.

I think the only thing I would have done differently would have been to include interchangeable tusks so you could have a pair of intact or broken tusks. That’s a small nit on an otherwise visually stunning figure.

And here is the link to Dorklair’s review that has a nice look at the figure
