Figura Obscura

Ganesha is the remover of obstacles so it's almost certainly him. I'm surprised they're going with Ganesha, since he's actively worshiped by over a billion people. I'm sure it'll be a great figure and Hindus aren't shy about representing him in all sorts of media and mediums, but right-leaning Hindu politicians also have a well-documented history of whipping up their base over innocuous depictions of Gandhi and other cultural symbols. Hinduism can be surprisingly insular when it serves those in power *cough cough* Modi *cough*.

Interesting choice. This kind of cements the spring release as ‘international mythology’ with the Monkey King and Egyptian Gods being the others. Monkey King has been the only one I’ve passed on with this line just due to a lack of familiarity with the story and character. I’m not very familiar with Hindu either so I’ll be going off of pure figure coolness factor but I am glad they are doing something out of the box with these releases. Part of the fun of this line has been the randomness of it.

Design-wise 4H would knock a representation of Ganesha out of the park, but as you said, it is a bit of a surprising choice to go with a figures from an active religion. Although I could see them doing figures from Christian or Jewish stories as well (if they announced a Moses figure a year from now I'd not be even mildly surprised) but yeah, there's a line between active religion and revered mythology like the old Egyptian gods or the Monkey King. I'm 100% sure if it's Ganesha the figure's going to be magnificent and designed with care and admiration for the source material, but I just get a little nervous for them touching upon a figure from an active religion. I just like the team and don't want them to have to deal with blowback if there is any.

I doubt there will be any significant blowback. As you said, they’ll be respectful of the depiction. With Frankenstein they used the book as the reference material rather than Hollywood depictions. Monkey King was extraordinarily well received. I’m sure they did their homework on this one. I only find the timing ironic. The day before Easter is a little strange timing to put up another active religious figure.

Ganesha makes sense.... The elephants were the 4H's second major release as independent toy makers. They've revisited their first - the minotaurs - multiple times now in Mythic Legions, so it doesn't surprise me that this is where they went.

I don't think there will be too much pushback about a figure of a figure from an active religion because I don't think there is any hang up or prohibition about idols or idolatry in hinduism - though I'm no expert.

My biggest issue with the damn thing is the drop at 9 am East Coast time means if I want this I have to wake up at 6 am on Saturday... thats mean and punitive. Its the weekend, I should get to sleep in on the weekend,, man.

The drop time KILLS me. The only day I get more than six hours of sleep is Saturday cos I can sleep in and make up from the rest of the week's sleep deprivation and every time they do this I'm like "My dudes, how about 11 or 12 EST?" A thousand times worse for the West Coasters. 9 est isn't too unreasonable on the East Coast, if lame for a Saturday. (Although I suppose it's better than trying to stealth-order figures at work for most folks.)

I forgot they'd done elephants before. I bet we see some fantastic parts reuse in Mythic Legions later this year too, assuming they're making Ganesha. I could see them building out their beastperson world options (which to be honest, I think are my favorite things they do - their catfolk are always a must-buy, Monkey King is GLORIOUS, and their snake warriors last wave? Chef's kiss, gorgeous work).

Did they stop doing two different drop times? I haven't been following 4H for a while, but IIRC they had a morning order window and a later window as well.

They said there will be a later unspecified drop time, but made it sound like it would be a much smaller allotment and on a separate date... which could still come with a 6 am, though I hopenit wouldn't.

I only saw the one drop time. I'm also guilty of sleeping through the first drop and then COMPLETELY forgetting the second drop time when they do two time slots. Literally every single time I forget.

Normally they had a 2nd afternoon drop.

I doubt there is much blowback. Hinduism encourages depictions of their gods. So long as it’s respectful I doubt there’s much of an issue.

That's exciting. I saw folks on Instagram suggesting Ra or Helios (odd choice for the Greek pantheon tbh). Ganesha feels much more likely given the messaging and imagery.

The Spring releases don't typically interest me. Don't get me wrong, they are mighty cool, and I did pick up the Monkey King, but I've been considering selling it. I'm sure Ganesha will be cool, but I'll likely skip it as I did the Egyptian release. The only religious/mythological thing I would have interest in them doing is Greek.

With that, I am far more into the Fall releases, and it isn't even close. Halloween is my favorite holiday, Fall is my favorite season. Every other year, my wife and I make the trek out to New England to visit Salem and Boston, we got married in October, we go hard on Halloween decorations, so...yeah...I always perk up on the creepier FO releases in Autumn.

I can not wait to see what this year's release is going to be. I'll be admiring your Spring drops from afar, post lots of pictures!
