Figura Obscura

With their plan to make more Egyptian gods in the future, if you have any thoughts of collecting them all, it might not be a bad idea to pickup Bastet now. The four hoursemen are sold out of the original version of her and Anubis now so they’ll start becoming harder to get.

So, with Thoth being available later this month, I wonder if we'll be waiting til October for the next release? Anybody else think we'll get another surprise earlier? My gut says we just might.

I don’t think we’ll see one before the much hyped in-stock sale. They’ve got so much in that already that sneaking in another Figura would be unwise. Between the kickstarter and the sale so close they’re testing even their most die hard fans’ financial limits. I’m not sure another $80+ figure would be the thing to add when they’ve got the armory figures, the legacy figures, the crossroads figures, Quoi, Thoth, and the Necronominus wave leftovers already in this sale plus probably a few older figure surprises. That’s a LOT. I can’t imagine they’d try to put a new FO before or during all of that. The warehouse is already going to take a month or so to get all those items out.

I don’t think we’ll have to wait long until the next one though, certainly before October, but I don’t think we’ll see anything but Thoth for April. Maybe as early as May but I think they’ll want to wait until this April sale is behind them. They are trying to be ‘less predictable’ so the spring release may become summer this year.

You know what would be nicer than a surprise summer Figura Obscura?

For the Horsemen to stop thinking I have $100+ to give them every fucking month.

Cosmic Legion Heads
Arkan and his sexy hench lady
The Kickstarter
The In stock sale
The retailer wave finally dropped
And if you bought any Rising Sons or OxCrew 2 or Phyden retail you got punched for those payments recently too.

Like I get it, you have a cult, you can pass a round a collection plate and demand payment every month for product we won’t see for three years, but hear me out…

What if, Thoth is just the Spring Obscura, and instead of telling the factory to stop everything and rush out a surprising daring bold new figure for July… we let them finish producing Rise of Beast or Ashes of Arbarbababgag or Dawn of Discovery or THE FUCKING DRAGON or whatever so we can be surprised by getting to enjoy toys we already paid for.

I'm normally gimme gimme gimme with stuff I've preordered but I think that dragon might be the only thing I truly regret buying just based on size and am okay with them dragging their feet on it just for me, personally. Everyone else can get it next week but if it takes til 2028 to ship that gives me time to like, learn how to finish the other part of my basement by hand so I have somewhere to put it.

I was thinking about the dragon the other day and was curious where it was in the development process (I didn't back it). Ordinarily, the price of plastic isn't a huge driver on costs when it comes to toys, but that thing being so damn big I have to imagine these oil prices are really messing with their bottom line.

As someone who remembers the Four Horsemen before they even left McFarlane Toys, and who visited their studios prior to the release of 200X He-Man (I still remember their prototype He-Man's head was based directly on Vladimir Kulich from The 13th Warrior), it's been fascinating to watch their journey over the years. They gained a lot of devotees during the He-Man/Mattel era who then followed them to FANtastic Exclusive and then Mythic Legions.
